When Stargirl arrives on the DC Universe streaming service, she won't be alone -- she'll also be joined by Sylvester Pemberton/Starman, played by Joel McHale.

Although the role is described as "Golden Age Starman," it's worth noting Sylvester Pemberton was actually known as Skyman and the Star-Spangled Kid in the comics, while the Starman of the Golden Age was Ted Knight. That character wore a red suit and helmet and was able to fly and shoot energy bolts using his cosmic rod.

According to the show's official description, "Stargirl follows High School sophomore Courtney Whitmore who inspires an unlikely group of young heroes to stop the villains of the past. This new DC Universe series reimagines Stargirl and the very first superhero team, the Justice Society of America, in a fun, exciting and unpredictable series premiering in 2019, produced by Warner Bros. Television, Mad Ghost Productions and Berlanti Productions."

It remains to be seen how McHale's reimagined Starman will factor into the series. It is, however, listed as a recurring role.

Stargirl joins the DC Universe line-up of Titans and the upcoming Doom Patrol and Swamp Thing live-action dramas. Other original content already announced includes an animated adult-aimed Harley Quinn series and Young Justice: Outsiders, a continuation of the fan-favorite Young Justice cartoon.
