DC Universe has delayed the Stargirl series premiere by a week.
The series will now debut Monday, May 18 on DC Universe, with The CW broadcasting it a day later on Tuesday, May 19. It was originally scheduled for Monday, May 11 on DC Universe and Tuesday, May 12 on The CW. DC Universe members will also get access to extended versions of select episodes, behind-the-scenes footage of cast and crew, exclusive collectible pins and limited-edition posters and more.
According to the series synopsis,
From original creator and comic book writer Geoff Johns, DC'S STARGIRL follows high school sophomore Courtney Whitmore (Brec Bassinger) as she moves to Blue Valley, Nebraska after her mother remarries Pat Dugan (Luke Wilson) and inspires an unlikely group of young heroes to stop the villains of the past. The live-action superhero drama reimagines the 1999 Stargirl comics and the very first superhero team, the Justice Society of America, in an unpredictable series. DC'S STARGIRL is lovingly inspired by Johns' late sister, who was killed in a plane accident.
Although a reason for the delay was not included in the announcement, this likely has to do with the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, which has impacted The CW's schedule. The disease led the network to suspend production on all its Arrowverse shows, which means new episodes are not releasing when they were supposed to. As a result, the next few weeks will air reruns in place of new episodes, disrupting The CW's original plans. It seems likely, then, that Stargirl's premiere date was affected in the process.
DC Universe's Stargirl stars Brec Bassinger as Courtney Whitmore (Stargirl), Joel McHale as Sylvester Pemberton (Starman), Brian Stapf as Ted Grant (Wildcat), Lou Ferrigno Jr. as Rex Tyler (Hourman) and Meg DeLacy as Cindy Burman. The series will premiere Monday, May 18 on DC Universe and Tuesday, May 19 on The CW.
