Red X is set to make his official comic book debut in Future State: Teen Titans #1.

DC's solicitation for the issue teases a grim reunion for the teenage superheroes, as a past tragedy decimated their ranks and destroyed Titans Tower. To further stoke nostalgia for the series, the lineup in Future State: Teen Titans is the exact same as the Teen Titans animated series where Red X first appeared.

Red X is teased as a "former student" of the Teen Titans, as well as their only hope to defeat the threat they're facing. His true identity, as well as the evil they face, remains shrouded in mystery. It had previously been established that the Titans formed an academy to train the next generation of heroes in Future State.

The cover to Future State: Teen Titans #1 showcases the Titans in the flaming wreckage of what used to be Titans Tower, with their bodies sprawled motionless in the debris. Nightwing is clutching the tattered mask of Deathstroke in his hand, which may hint at Deathstroke appearing in the series, given his history with the team.

  • When the original New Teen Titans formed a school to mentor and train young heroes, they wanted to help save the world. Years later, Titans Tower is a monument to a graveyard of pupils lost in a terrible battle. Returning to the site of their greatest failure, Nightwing, Starfire, Beast Boy, and Cyborg join Raven to plot a course to face off against the evil that destroyed their team and school. Loyalties are questioned and motives are suspect as the former teen heroes must turn to the mysterious Red X—a former student—for help. Don’t miss the first comics appearance of this Red X, previously seen only in the hit animated TV series Teen Titans Go!

Red X first appeared in Season 1 of Teen Titans as an identity Robin used to try and track down Slade. He would later reappear in Season 3, with another person wearing the mask. The identity of the second Red X was never revealed, though fans speculated it was the second Robin Jason Todd.
