WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Justice League Incarnate #2, now on sale

The DC Universe is full of surprising romantic interludes, with unlikely pairings ending up finding strong rapports in the most chaotic of times. This even seems to extend to the multiverse's own Justice League, which just teased a surprising romance.

Justice League Incarnate #2 (by Joshua Williamson, Dennis Culver, Kyle Hotz, Andrei Bressan, Paul Pelletier, Norm Rapamund, Hi-Fi, and Tom Napolitano) sets up a possible romance between President Superman and Captain Multiverse -- which could become the DC Multiverse's ultimate power couple.

Justice League Incarnate has been following the titular multiversal team on their mission to protect all the worlds of the DC Multiverse from a litany of threats -- including the fully empowered and restored Darkseid. This has taken the team across multiple realities and introduced new members to their number -- including Avery Ho from the core-DC Universe as well as Doctor Multiverse. A denizen of Earth-8, Doctor Multiverse is a uniquely powerful being capable of glimpsing realities and tracking people across the multiverse. While in the Tavern of Mystery on the magical Earth-13, Doctor Multiverse reveals a more flirty side when she casually asks President Superman of Earth-23 if he'd like to share a drink.

She addresses him by his first name (and reveals her own to be Maya), but her flirtations are met with a wall of forced professionalism from the Superman analog. Even the Flashpoint-Batman can see the quick bond between them though and tells Calvin Ellis that he should enjoy his chance at happiness with someone like Maya while they still have the chance -- noting that their "never-ending battle" to save the day means they don't have an excuse to determine their mission is more important than their happiness. Clearly affected by these words, Calvin goes to speak with Maya on a personal level when the heroes are dragged back into their mission.

Notably, Calvin and Maya are deposited on a seemingly normal world together at the end of the issue, where neither of them has access to their abilities. Without their powers and seemingly stranded across the multiverse, Calvin and Maya might have the perfect chance to get to know one another a bit better and develop a genuine romance before inevitably returning to their battle against the forces of Darkseid. The two heroes getting the chance to be happy together is an interesting development. They could easily form a relationship without the constant risk of death and destruction that occurs on superheroic worlds.

But there is also a serious question to be asked about what could happen if such a union were to take place. In theory, the pair could have a child -- one with the physical strengths of President Superman and the multiversal capabilities of Doctor Multiverse. This child could theoretically become the multiverse's strongest being, someone capable of handling any threat while also utilizing some truly miraculous powers. Such a child would likely become more powerful than either of their parents, continuing a recent trend in the DC Universe where the children of long-established heroes (like Jon Kent and Andy Curry) have been teased to become more powerful than their already impressive parents.

A possible child resulting out of the powerful Justice League Incarnate couple could possibly become a genuine multiversal presence. This would give the heroes someone they could rely on in the coming battles against Darkseid and the other villains seeking out the Great Darkness.
