10 Martian Manhunter

J'onn J'onzz came to Earth as a refugee from Mars. His ability to read minds has always made him thoughtful, conscientious, and pragmatic. These attributes made J’onn a natural leader for the Justice League.

J'onn has a unique understanding of emotions and motivations. When he was a corrupt police officer on Mars his ability to successfully lead two lives was his eventual downfall. The humiliation and loss inspired J’onn to be better than his past. His journey to Earth was his rebirth as Martian Manhunter.

Buddy Baker is Animal Man. His connection to animals and living organisms is only the beginning of his powers. As a guardian, Baker must strive to find compromises with the other guardians. They represent the Green, the Rot, and many elemental forces.

An ongoing struggle for dominion over the Earth requires vigilance and determination. Throughout his many adventures, Buddy has learned the importance of balance, order, and reflection. Buddy must be composed in order to defend the red and acquire the attributes of animals.

8 Swamp Thing

Dr. Alec Holland became a guardian of the green when his body was destroyed in an accident. Holland merged with the swamp where his body died. The connection he formed with the swamp recreated Alec as the Swamp Thing.

At first Swamp Thing could not speak and became comfortable with internal dialogue and the awareness of the Green. Even though he eventually gained the power to communicate, Swamp Thing is known for being a man of few words. His actions are deliberate and determined.

7 Phantom Stranger

The layers of the Phantom Stranger’s history are hidden in the shadows. A quiet, thoughtful, and unrevealing nature only adds to the mystery. The Phantom Stranger is cursed with greater knowledge than the characters with whom he interacts on Earth. He rarely reveals a smile or wink that says more than about what he thinking. Undeterred by confusion or disarray, Stranger is a steady hand guiding the fate of humanity without saying anything more than is required.

Too often the Phantom Stranger must keep the pieces of information he holds hidden in order to sustain the events that he can predict. When he does converse with others his answers are terse and uncommitted. Any plan he puts into action is dependent on people acting according to what he has seen. Discerning the right way to convey the least amount of information requires a dispassionate viewpoint that is logical and patient.

6 Doctor Fate

Kent Nelson was the champion of Order who donned the helmet of Nabu and stood side by side with the Justice Society of America. That decision sacrificed his earthly desires in exchange for mystical power. His connection to Nabu led Kent to struggle to keep control of his body and identity while demanding that he serve as an agent of Order. These challenges created tension in his personal life and his relationship with his wife Imra. Only Kent's ability to knowingly engage with his human half and separate himself from the helmet prevents Nabu from completely controlling his life.

Meanwhile, Nabu believed Kent played a limited role in helping bring order to earth. In addition to mastering the forces of mystical power without succumbing to temptation, Kent must contend with Nabu's criticisms and desire to take absolute control. Kent’s ability to command great power with steady hands and willpower worthy of a Green Lantern makes him an anchor among DC characters. 5 Ray Palmer

Ray Palmer is the second hero named the Atom, but the first to harness the powers of a dwarf star and control the ability to shrink his body smaller than an atom. Ray can travel through telephone lines, internet communication, and a place known as the Microverse.

Ray’s scientific mind always worked best alone. It became an advantage when he would spend weeks and months exploring the worlds between atoms. But his role as the steady hand behind the science for the Justice League.

4 Max Mercury

Max Mercury was a legendary member of the Flash family. He was so fast that each time he tested the boundaries of his speed he catapulted forward in time. Eventually, Max met and worked with teams including the Justice Society, and more.

Later he became a mentor to Impulse. Max, is often referred to as the Zen master of speed. His austere and uncomplicated approach to problems and solutions made him a sage. He helped Wally and Impulse become the greatest speedsters of their time.

3 The Monitor (Mar Novu)

Mar Novu is one of three brothers created by the Super Celestial Perpetua. His job as The Monitor was watching over the positive matter worlds created by the World Forger. From the beginning of the Crisis on Infinite Earths saga, he witnessed the destruction of Earths across the multiverse. Cursed by his responsibility The Monitor used the planets like a Grand Master of chess. His tactical thinking and patient resolve were the foundation for building a plan to beat the Anti-Monitor.

The Monitor was instrumental in gathering together heroes from worlds that had died and those doomed to perish. He used each hero as a key to unlock the powers of the multiverse.  Sadly his preparations were not enough to prevent his apparent death at the hands of Harbinger who was corrupted by his brother the Anti-Monitor. Even this moment of loss was not enough to shake his determination and moments after his death the plans he set in motion continued to Recently The Monitor returned and joined his brothers to help the Justice League wage war against Perpetua.

2 Metron

Metron is a New God who has access to all the information available across space and time. His Mobius Chair is a nexus that bridges all realities. Metron is often mysterious and does not like to reveal more information than he believes is necessary.

Like the Phantom Stranger, Metron prefers to observe instead of act. The secrets of the universe are not something Metron can share with others. Instead, he must decipher, analyze, and use the information at his disposal without consulting anyone else.

1 Highfather

Highfather is the ruler of New Genesis. Like all great rulers, Highfather uses fatherly wisdom based on experience and education to lead his people. He is the lone New God with access to the source fragment and the mysterious hand that writes prophecies on its surface. Discerning what each message means requires concentration and objectivity. Then, and only then can his years of understanding unpack what news foretells.  New Genesis depends on his leadership to keep them safe from the forces of Apokolips, ruled by the despot Darkseid.

A lifetime spent fighting endless wars with Apokolips led Highfather to a substantial transformation. In the desert, he discovered the Source and put down his weapons of war. As the ruler, he sacrificed his son Scott Free in an exchange for Orion heir to Apokolips to secure a truce with Darkseid. The decision continues to haunt him, but Highfather's resolve remains unshaken.
