Along with James Gunn's Suicide Squad 2 and Matt Reeves' Batman project, Warner Bros. has staked out a release date for another DC film: the animated DC Super Pets.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, DC Super Pets will be released on May 21, 2021. First reported in July, the property is inspired by DC's classic Legion of Super-Pets, which dates to the early 1960s. However, the current incarnation, DC Super Pets, began as a children's book series released by Capstone Publishing, starring Superman's dog, Krypto; Batman's dog, Ace the Bat-Hound; Supergirl's horse, Comet, and cat, Streaky; Beppo the Super-Monkey; the Wonder Twins' monkey, Gleek; Wonder Woman's kangaroo Jumpa; Aquaman's seahorse Storm; The Flash's turtle, Whatzit; and the Green Lantern B'dg.
A DC Super Pets animated short also appeared as a part of Cartoon Network's DC Nation programming block.
The film will be directed by Jared Stern, best known as a writer of The LEGO Ninjago Movie and The LEGO Batman Movie, and Sam Levine, and produced by Patty Hicks.
DC Super Pets follows the release last year of the animated Teen Titans Go! to the Movies, based on the popular Cartoon Network series. The superhero comedy earned $52 million, on a $10 million production budget, and earned widespread acclaim.
