DC has some of the most respected heroes of all time and some of the best teams ever. One place where DC excels is its teen superteams and the best of the bunch is the Teen Titans. Originally founded by Robin, Wonder Girl, and Kid Flash, the team was where the sidekicks came to hang out and would expand greatly over the years, becoming the main home of DC's teen hero scene, where they learned the ropes and became legends.

Young superheroes aren't always the strongest and that goes for the Teen Titans as well. Over the years, the members of the group got way better, becoming stronger, more skilled heroes.

8 Jason Todd Went From Second String Robin To The Red Hood

Red Hood Task Force Z

Jason Todd wasn't a Teen Titan for very long but of all the Robins to join the team, he was probably the weakest. Todd was an angry young man and wasn't as conducive to Batman's training as Dick Grayson before him or Tim Drake after him. He joined up with Donna Troy's short-lived incarnation of the group, taking over for Nightwing.

Todd would eventually be killed by Joker and return to life. Trained by Talia al Ghul and the League of Assassins, Todd would become the Red Hood, an all-around superior version of himself. While he hasn't really joined the Titans in any way again, he's still a Titan that got a major glow-up as time went by.

7 Wally West Went From His Powers Weakening To The Fastest Flash Ever

Flash Wally West Job 2

Wally West is a founding Teen Titan, starting with the team as Kid Flash. A speedster is hard to consider weak but when he started, his powers weren't as developed as they would be. After a while, his powers would actually weaken, forcing him to leave the Titans and retire for a time. He came back to heroism just in time for Crisis On Infinite Earths, discovering Barry Allen's death.

Wally would become the full-time Flash and keep growing in power and skill, becoming one of the most powerful Flashes ever. Considered the best Flash by many, Wally went from a novice to almost losing his powers to the fastest human ever. He'd join the Justice League and make a name for himself saving all time and space many times over the years.

6 Lilith's Telepathic Powers Grew Exponentially Over The Years

Nightwing Dick Grayson Flash Wally West Lilith Omen Arsenal Superman

Lilith joined the Teen Titans before the advent of New Teen Titans. A lesser-known member of the group, Lilith was a telepath at a time when that power wasn't as well defined as it is nowadays. While she was an asset to the team, she was nowhere near as powerful as she would be later, when she was known as Omen and joined the Titans, the adult group for former Teen Titans.

Omen's powers were much greater, even allowing her to challenge Psimon, one of the most powerful evil telepaths on the planet. She proved to be a great asset to the Titans while she was on the team, using her greatly enhanced powers to keep them safe from harm.

5 Roy Harper's Growth From Speedy To Arsenal Was Beset With Problems

Roy Harper Red Arrow

Roy Harper's weaknesses weren't of the physical kind, although he did get much more skilled as the years went on. Speedy would fall prey to addiction, shooting heroin at his lowest point. He'd get clean with the help of Black Canary but this experience changed his superheroic career forever. He'd have several relapses over the years and leave the Teen Titans, showing back up for short stints before leaving again.

He was able to defeat his demons and become a much stronger person, becoming Arsenal and then Red Arrow. He'd join the Titans and the Justice League, proving that he was just as strong as any of his fellows, fighting evil and the demons of his addiction to become a hero truly worthy of respect.

4 Bart Allen Greatly Improved As A Teen Titan

Bart Allen - Flash family alignment

Bart Allen grew a lot after becoming a Teen Titan. While his power level was high as Impulse, he wasn't exactly the best speedster ever. Sure, he was fast but that's pretty much all he had going for him. After getting kneecapped by Deathstroke, Bart matured immensely. He superspeed read through an entire library and became a more focused individual.

Bart's time as Kid Flash on the Teen Titans was all about becoming a better, more powerful hero. Bart finally became a hero that everyone was proud of, transcending his motormouth with an attitude motif to become a hero worthy of being the Flash. Speedsters getting better is a huge part of Teen Titans history and Bart played that role wonderfully.

3 Cyborg Has Had A Massive Power Upgrade Over The Years

Cyborg discussing how he is a bridge between humans and technology

Cyborg's years as a Teen Titan are what made him a star but there's no doubt he's more powerful than ever. Cyborg was one of the tougher Titans but he often found himself getting smacked around by the stronger villains the team faced, losing limbs pretty often for someone made of promethium. He was pretty much just strong and had a sonic cannon; not exactly the best powers on the team.

Cyborg would get more enhancements as the years went by, soon becoming one of the toughest members of the team. When his origin was changed to include Mother Box technology, he became much more powerful, able to manifest Boom Tubes and take control of any tech around, beyond also being stronger and more durable, allowing him to become a greater hero.

2 Donna Troy Became One Of The Toughest Titans Ever

donna-troy

Donna Troy started on the team when she was little more than a girl. While she was strong and durable, she was nowhere near as strong as she would be. Donna Tory kept improving over the years, making the name Wonder Girl a legend and becoming the Teen Titans' strongest member. She'd also gain a lot of skill, even outfighting a warrior born like Starfire.

Joining the Titans after growing out of the teen group, Donna Troy would prove to be a bruiser like few others, using her amazing strength, speed, and fighting skill to become one of the team's powerhouses. While her history can get pretty confusing thanks to the shifting continuity of the DC Multiverse, one thing that's not convoluted is power level, which has always gone up.

1 Aqualad Became Tempest And Gained Way More Power

Tempest from DC Comics

Atlanteans in the Silver Age were nowhere near as tough as they would become and Tempest is a perfect example of that. A comparatively unpopular sidekick, suffered from the same problem that Aquaman did back in the day, as his powers weren't the best anywhere but the water. That would eventually change, as Aqualad would eventually begin studying magic and become known as Tempest.

Tempest's magical powers made him a much greater hero, even improving his costumes immensely. Tempest wasn't the best Teen Titans but his magic made him a great protector of Atlantis and one of the most powerful members of the Titans. Like most Atlanteans, he just got better and better as the years went on.
