Spotify announced that it is teaming with DC Comics and Warner Bros. in a multi-year deal to produce a series of scripted podcasts focusing on existing DC characters.

WB's Business Strategy and Operations SVP Robert Steele and Blue Ribbon Content/Warner Bros Animation Alternative EVP Peter Girardi said in a joint statement, "Warner Bros. has been synonymous with compelling and unforgettable storytelling for nearly a century, and we're continuing to expand that legacy across all types of media platforms for our fans." The statement continued, "Spotify's deep engagement with its consumers and commitment to prioritizing their podcast vertical makes them an ideal partner in this endeavor. We're excited to bring beloved characters and franchises from DC and Warner Bros. into this new world and to use our storytelling prowess to redefine what's possible in the scripted audio space."

"As we continue to see explosive growth in podcasting around the world, we are thrilled to partner with Warner Bros. to build this slate of programming drawn from the worlds of DC and WB," Spotify's Chief Content and Advertising Business Officer Dawn Ostroff added. Executive Vice President of Blue Ribbon Content Peter Girardi and Senior Vice President, Business Strategy and Operations at Warner Bros. Digital Networks Robert Steele; will manage the partnership on the DC Comics end.

Aside from creating content based on existing DC characters, the partnership between DC Comics and Spotify will also see the production of content centered on original IPs.

This partnership stems from Warner Bros.' commitment to take advantage of available platforms. Warner Bros. is currently working with Audible to develop an audio drama based on Neil Gaiman's The Sandman. While the partnership between DC Comics and Spotify is a first for the publisher, similar deals have been made between other companies. Marvel Comics, for example, has produced a series of serialized fictions through Serial Box.
