Shazam: Zachary Levi Already Training for DC Role

On Friday, it was announced that Zachary Levi has been cast as the titular character in the DC Comics adaptation, Shazam! Many folks on the internet were quick to point out that the actor wasn't in as good physical shape as Superman actor Henry Cavill, nor Black Adam actor Dwayne Johnson -- but it seems as if Levi's already hard at work in the gym.

A tweet from Eric Blackmon, a friend of Levi's, has revealed that the actor is undergoing workouts that last up to four hours in length, to get into the idealistic physical form of Shazam! The movie -- which is a production of New Line Cinema, Warner Bros. Pictures, and DC Films -- is expected to begin filming in February next year, giving Levi a few months to get into heroic shape.

Levi is no stranger to superhero movies, having played Fandral -- one of the Warriors Three -- in Thor: The Dark World and Thor: Ragnarok. His other work includes NBC's one-hour comedy Chuck, as well as Tangled and Heroes Reborn.

Set to shoot from February until May in Toronto, Ontario, the DCEU film was thought to star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as longtime Shazam! foe Black Adam, until it was revealed the character would instead feature in his own solo film. The villain of WB’s Shazam! movie hasn’t been revealed.

The next DC film to go into production, Shazam!, directed by Lights Out and Annabelle: Creation’s David F. Sandberg, hits theaters in April, 2019.
