When it comes to cosmic forces within the DC Universe, some of the most powerful belong to the various Lantern Corps. The most well known and powerful tend to be the ever-popular Green Lantern Corps, the official police force of the universe. However, there are several other Lantern Corps representing various colors and the emotions they represent.

The most dangerous and inherently violent has to be The Red Lantern Corps. Led by the villainous Atrocitus, the Red Lanterns are powered by the red light of hate, bathed in blood and anger. Here are the ten most powerful members of the Red Lantern Corps.

10 Rankorr

Otherwise known as Jack Moore, Rankorr was a kid from Earth who lived with his brother Ray and their grandfather after the passing of their mother. He suppressed his rage at his mother’s accident by throwing himself into his studies and reading. However, while attending Oxford he witnessed his grandfather having his life slain and his brother beaten severely by the police after going after the man responsible for their grandfather’s death.

In his rage, Jack is turned into a Red Lantern. Holding onto some of his rationality, he decides to avenge his grandfather and brother, taking the life of his grandfather’s killer.

9 Dex-Starr

The interesting thing about this next Red Lantern has to be the fact that when he was originally written, it was meant to be a joke. However, the character evolved and became what writer Geoff Johns refers to as one of the most dangerous and ruthless members of the Red Lantern Corps. That character is Dex-Starr.

Originally a blue house cat on Earth named Dexter, the cat’s owner was tragically slain during a home invasion in Brooklyn. Managing to scratch one of the intruders, the cat became homeless before nearly passing away. However, its rage saved it, with a red lantern ring taking hold of the cat.

8 Superman-Prime

It wasn’t until DC Comics' cosmic event Blackest Night that some of the major DC Heroes found themselves with some Lantern Corps rings of their own. The Red Lanterns were no different, as several heroes were forced to wear the rings in order to survive the Black Lantern Corps.

Villains also got Red Lantern Rings, including the well-known foe Superman-Prime, also known as Superboy-Prime. When the Black Lantern ring tries to turn him into a villainous Black Lantern, the rage burned inside him so deeply that a red lantern ring destroyed the black lantern ring, making him a temporary Red Lantern.

7 Hal Jordan

When the Red Lantern Corps first formed and Atrocitus had a sizable army to use, the first mission they undertook was the capture of Sinestro. Blaming Sinestro for his last capture before becoming a Red Lantern, Atrocitus made his demise the Red Lantern Corps top priority.

After capturing him during a prison transfer interrupted by the Sinestro Corps, Hal Jordan went to Ysmault to save Sinestro alongside Saint Walker and the Blue Lanterns. However after former Green Lantern turned Red Lantern Laira is slain by Sinestro, Hal loses control of his anger and becomes a temporary Red Lantern, until Saint Walker saves him.

6 Mera

During the Blackest Night event, one of the major turning points in the battle against the undead forces of the Black Lantern Corps was the various Lantern Corps forming a brief alliance to stop them in their tracks. This included giving various heroes and villains their own power rings for battling the threat.

Mera, the hero of the Seven Seas and true love of Aquaman, was given the power of the Red Lanterns to battle the Black Lantern Corps. When her rage threatened to overtake her, Wonder Woman used the power of the Star Sapphire to bring her love for Aquaman to the forefront when he was resurrected.

5 Kyle Rayner

One of the most unique ring bearers of the Red Lantern Corps to ever hold a ring has to be Green Lantern hero Kyle Rayner. A natural-born hero and savior of many battles in the DC Universe, Kyle discovered he had the ability to become a magnet for all the various Lantern Corps rings in the universe, including the Red Lantern Corps.

Gaining a ring, he is able to channel the power of the Red Lantern while channeling the other power rings of the emotional spectrum, allowing him the power of the red lantern ring but in the process making him much colder in nature.

4 Bleez

The most powerful member of the Red Lantern Corps consistent members other than Atrocitus has to be Bleez, his second in command. Once a princess for the planet Havania in Sector 33, she was captured by the Sinestro Corps, and subsequently found herself tortured at their hands while in captivity.

Swearing vengeance, she was transformed and deformed by the Red Lantern Corps to exact her revenge, becoming Atrocitus’s right-hand woman after he gave her back her intelligence. In the more recent Rebirth era, she found herself cured of the Red Lantern curse by Simon Baz, albeit temporarily, giving her a taste of peace and freedom.

3 Supergirl

One of the more powerful and prominent former members of the Red Lantern Corps had to be Supergirl, aka Kara Zor-El. In the New 52 era, Kara found herself becoming a Red Lantern for a while after her grief and rage at her past losses became out of control and she was taken over by the Red Lantern Ring.

After being captured by the Green Lanterns in her rage state, Supergirl was purified in the blood lake and given back her sanity. She worked under Guy Gardner’s Red Lantern Corps but eventually was able to rid herself of the ring and survive, unlike others.

2 Guy Gardner

One of the toughest and most hard-headed members of the Green Lantern Corps was Guy Gardner. Guy's inner rage boils over after the presumed death of his friend Kyle Rayner in the comics, leading to Red Lantern Vice’s ring taking Guy over.

After many adventures back and forth with the Green and Red rings, he eventually became the leader of the Red Lantern Corps, becoming a peacekeeping force who ended the lives of criminals rather than imprison them. However he was eventually overthrown by Atrocitus during a war within the Corps, and he returned to the Green Lanterns.

1 Atrocitus

The founder and leader of the Red Lantern Corps, Atrocitus is by far the most powerful of all the Red Lanterns. After the former psychologist survived the massacre of his people at the hands of the Red Lanterns, Atrocitus became a criminal who fought against the Guardians of the Universe.

After one too many defeats, Atrocitus slays the other four survivors he worked with and uses their blood to create the first Red Lantern Battery, forming the Red Lantern Corps as its leader. Atrocitus leads many battles against the various other corps of the emotional spectrum, often creating chaos and rage in his wake.
