DC Comics readers will have to wait a bit longer for Brian Michael Bendis' Event Leviathan: Checkmate limited series, as the company postponed the title indefinitely.

According to GamesRadar+, DC promised that the title will be "rescheduled to align with upcoming DC Universe storylines." Event Leviathan: Checkmate, which is written by Bendis and penciled by his former Daredevil collaborator Alex Maleev, was originally announced to release on April 22 back in January but had its release date canceled after the current coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic put a halt on the comic industry. The title was then set to hit shelves on June 2, but it also missed that release date. Meanwhile, a second spinoff called Manhunters: Secret History was canceled.

Event Leviathan: Checkmate spins out the events of Bendis and Maleev's 2019 title Event Leviathan. In the story, the malevolent organization Leviathan, now led by former Manhunter Mark Shaw, who also goes by the name Leviathan, takes over the DC Universe's espionage underground.

Opposing Leviathan is a new version Checkmate, which is comprised of Lois Lane, Green Arrow, Talia al Ghul — herself Leviathan's former leader — and the Question to covertly combat Leviathan.

Written by Brian Michael Bendis with art by Alex Maleev, Event Leviathan: Checkmate currently does not have a release date.
