Batman's fights a lot of different villains, but most of them are kind of same when it comes to their motivations- they're mostly gangster types trying to make their name and fortune in the Gotham underworld. Some are more violent than others and some are crazier than others, but their motivations are all similar.

Poison Ivy, however, isn't like the others. A horticulturist, she has decided that humanity's time as the most powerful species on the planet should be at an end and that it's time for plants to take back the Earth. Using her connection to the Green, she can influence plants to do what ever she needs them to do. In recent years, she's toned down her more genocidal tendencies and has even started a genuinely loving relationship with Harley Quinn.

Poison Ivy is one of Batman's more interesting villains, but not everything about her makes sense. This list is going to look at some of those things.

10 She Uses Her Mind Control Pollen Inefficiently

Poison Ivy has been known to use mind control pollen and derivatives on her enemies, but when it comes right down to it, she uses it pretty inefficiently. She'll use it in small doses or on lipstick, but she rarely takes advantage and uses it on a wide enough level to make it really worth using.

Let's be real- with access to a mind control agent, using it in the way she does just doesn't make any sense. The few times she has used to a wide effect, it's done pretty well so it's weird she hasn't used it this way more often. However...

9 For Mind Control Pollen, It's Pretty Easy To Beat

Everybody knows that Batman is awesome and has a great mind, but dude overcomes Ivy's mind control pollen like it's no thing. If Batman can do it, that means other people can do it too. So, really, how useful is it?

Something that's supposed to control people's minds shouldn't be beaten as easy as Ivy's mind control pollen is. She's a horticulturist with a connection to the Green, there's no way she can't figure out a better mind control pollen than the one she always uses.

8 The Whole Poison Kiss Thing

Poison Ivy likes to use a poisoned kiss to try and take down her opponents and it just about never works. It's the type of weapon of that only works once- if people know that you can kill them with a poison kiss, why would they ever fall for it?

The real weird thing is if she's able to make the poison she puts in her lipstick so easily, why doesn't she just use it for other things? Coat some throwing knives with it or something. It would be way more effective.

7 How She Connected To The Green

Poison Ivy's connection to the Green allows her to control plants and make them do all kinds of things. Humans connected to the Green are very, very powerful and it's a powerset that makes sense for Ivy to have.

What doesn't make sense about it is how she gained the power of the Green. Is it just because she's a horticulturist? In that case, all kinds of people should be able to access the Green. Is it because of the experiments done on her? Again, if that was the case, then it could be replicated and all kinds of people would have access to it.

6 Joining Supervillain Teams

DC Comics - Secret Society of Super Villains standing before their leader

Poison Ivy has been known to pal around with the various supervillains of the DC Universe and has been a member of several different groups of villains, including the Injustice Gang and the Secret Society Of Supervillains, as well as joining Alexander Luthor's Society during Infinite Crisis.

Ivy joining a supervillain team makes very little sense when it comes to her goals. The teams she joins are usually trying to take over the world for some reason, but Ivy doesn't want to take over the world for the same reasons. Does she think plants would be any better off if Lex Luthor ruled the world?

5 She Should Be Way More OP

Being able to use the Green is an awesome power. Plants are everywhere on Earth and being able to control them gives someone the kind of power that's nearly impossible to beat. For an example, Swamp Thing was able to completely immobilize Gotham City when they were holding his girlfriend Abigail Arcane for trial and there was pretty much nothing anyone could do about it.

Poison Ivy isn't nearly as powerful with the Green as Swamp Thing is; he's an avatar of it while she can only tap into it. But, she gets beat way too easily for someone with the kind of power she has. As a horticulturist, she should be able to combine her powers with her knowledge and be nearly unstoppable.

4 Petty Crime

Poison-Ivy

Unlike a lot of criminals in Gotham, Poison Ivy has goals beyond being the most powerful gang lord in the city or killing a bunch of people or killing Batman. She literally wants to change the world, making it a safer place for plant life and curbing human destruction of the environment. However, for someone with goals like these, she gets up to a lot of petty crime.

Poison Ivy isn't a typical villain, so having her do typical villain things is kind of nonsensical. She doesn't care about the money and with her connection to the Green, doesn't even need it. Having her engage in most of the criminal activities that other Batman villains engage makes zero sense.

3 Her Batman Crush

In 1989's Batman: Pavane, Poison Ivy was being interviewed about joining the Suicide Squad and it was revealed that she before she became a villain, she fell in love with Batman, going so far as to create a love shrine to him. The whole reason she came to Gotham and became a villain was to get his attention and try to get with him.

That makes no sense at all, although it's weirdly common among Batman's female villains. What makes it even worse is that it was written by Neil Gaiman and one would think he would know better than to use that as a story beat. It's for the best that this little development was completely forgotten, both for Ivy and Neil. Well, forgotten until now. All of you know about it and will never forget it.

2 Why She's Even A Villain Still

Now a days with her control of the Green, Poison Ivy doesn't really need to rob anyone or commit any crime for money. She can pretty much grow whatever she needs to grow for her research and can use that to make money. In the modern world, her eco-friendly attitude is a plus and she could do more for the world using her powers for good than anything she could accomplish for evil.

The fact that she's still presented as a villain or does villainous things doesn't make any sense at all anymore. She doesn't need to do anything like that anymore and she could do more for her goals as a hero than as a villain.

1 She Should Be Able To Beat Batman With Ease

Poison Ivy has been getting jobbed to the Dark Knight for years and it made sense back before she could control plant life. At that point, she was just a horticulturist with some plant based toxins and other chemicals. However, once she gained the power to control plant life, there's no reason that Batman should have ever beat her.

Batman is smart and resourceful but against someone who can control flora, he knows that he can't hang. Swamp Thing has humbled him on multiple occasions. The fact that Poison Ivy couldn't do this doesn't make any sense.
