Pamela Isley, better known as Poison Ivy, remains one of Batman's most iconic foes, even during the years where she's been seen on the better side of justice. Originally a botanist, Ivy was gifted with superhuman abilities by the elemental force known as The Green. The Green connects all plant-based life on Earth, and as such, gives her control over it.

Her powers and limitations have varied over the years, and she's been able to listen through plants, manifest parts of herself through nature, and – most notably – bind and constrict her enemies with vines. She's been able to go up against DC's hardest hitters more than once, but not every great show of power has been violent.

10 Killing The (Zombie) Birds Of Prey

Ivy's control of Chlorokinesis ranges in terms of versatility. She's demonstrated the ability to rapidly grow plants just by walking near them, attach toxic spores to molecules, and fashion bark into armor. In some variations, even a simple seed is enough for Ivy to create massive plants of destruction. Able to manipulate plants on a molecular level, Ivy can also increase plants' strength and durability.

In the original DCeased storyline, Ivy goes with Harley Quinn to break up with Joker. Trusting Harley, Ivy tells her to meet up with her later, both unaware that Joker was already infected with the Anti-Life Equation. After Harley escaped and killed Joker's zombie, she was confronted by the zombified Batwoman, Huntress, Catwoman, & Batgirl. Ivy appeared and crushed all four to death with vines, a gesture Quinn called "romantic."

9 Saving A Forest From Hellfire

Often, Ivy foregoes fighting others if there's no clear end goal to preserving The Green. In Injustice: Year Three, Dick Grayson, who had become the new Deadman, possessed Ivy and brought her to a battle between Superman's Regime and Batman's Insurgency. Her presence was required to counter Swamp Thing's, who'd allied with Superman.

However, the battle would be cut short, thanks to Trigon and Mister Mxyzptlk's reality-altering magic. Ivy told Swamp Thing she had no part in the fight and that she was only here to protect The Green. Swamp Thing yielded at that, and together, they were able to preserve the forest from Trigon's flames.

8 Regeneration

Following a brief rehabilitation (that didn't end the way it should have, more on that later), Ivy and Harley decided to try their hands at being heroes, as depicted in 2019's Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy.  It was quite a challenge for Ivy, as she still held little compassion for humanity.

However, their heroic adventures would be plagued by The Floronic Man, another person connected to The Green. He sought to consume Ivy and her power and could essentially follow them anywhere plants existed. He also managed to attach himself to Ivy, enhancing his ability to track them. At Ivy's behest, Harley chopped off the arm that the Floronic Man had placed his flowers on, prompting Ivy to remind Harley it wasn't a big deal.

7 Creating Plant/Human Hybrids

Plenty of Ivy's storylines have involved her grappling with her identity. Even though she's part human, she refuses to acknowledge it. Still, that hasn't stopped her from trying to better herself. In her first solo series Poison Ivy: Cycle of Life and Death, Ivy tried her best at rejoining human society. She found herself working at Gotham Botanical Gardens.

Being part of the scientific community once more, Ivy was able to learn gene-editing techniques. Combining animal and plant DNA, Ivy created two "sporelings" named Rose and Hazel. She later found another, Thorn, who was created with Ivy's stolen research. Each inherited Ivy's abilities and became quite a handful for the doctor.

6 Controlling Superman

One of Ivy's most recognizable powers is her pheromones, having used them to mind-control others via kisses, pollen, or spores. They originally had a somewhat limited timespan, which made Ivy have to "reapply" her power when the time was needed.

While she's used her pheromones in the past to control the likes of Batman and Catwoman, they pale in comparison to the willpower she demonstrated in handling Superman. During the Batman: Hush storyline, Hush gifted Ivy a synthetic Kryptonite lipstick, effectively allowing her to control The Man of Steel. Though he was able to snap out of it thanks to Lois Lane's cries for help, it wouldn't be the last time he found himself under Ivy's spell.

5 Countering Scarecrow's Fear Toxin

Though she served as a villain in both Arkham Asylum and Arkham City, her appearance in the final "Arkhamverse" game would be a heroic one. Prior to the game's events, Scarecrow had gathered all of Batman's rouges and proposed a plan that would finally end the Dark Knight. Ever the misanthrope, Ivy told Scarecrow she wasn't interested in his "silly human games" and was imprisoned for experimentation.

She created a spore that counteracted the Fear Toxin but needed more than her own energy reserves for all of Gotham. Batman took her to Gotham's Botanical Gardens, where she was able to manipulate an ancient tree. Scarecrow's Toxin had been amplified, however, and damaged any plant it came in contact with. Sacrificing her life, Ivy absorbed the toxin within the plants, allowing them to disperse her cure.

4 Constructing The Gotham Jungle

Ivy's been known to create massive forests, gardens, and fortresses from plants, but she outdid herself in the DCeased storyline. Not long after Ivy saves Harley Quinn from the zombified Birds of Prey, she takes Quinn to a place where "The Green will protect [them] us." The later duo found themselves back in the ruins of Gotham City.

Within a week of arriving, Ivy enveloped Gotham in nature, stringing up any zombies who dared try to enter on what Harley referred to as "The Death Wall." Damian Wayne, Black Canary, and Green Arrow sought the two out in the hopes that it could become a haven for survivors. Though Ivy enacted strict rules, The Gotham Jungle became one of the last sanctuaries on Earth.

3 Leveling Numerous SkyScrapers

Aside from Harley Quinn, Catwoman is one of the only humans Ivy is willing to team up with. Together, the three were once the Gotham City Sirens and starred in their own comic series from 2009-2011. At the end of the series, Catwoman had left both Harley and Ivy in Arkham, angering the pair. Together, they take Catwoman down, only for the feline thief to reveal she'd manipulated the entire group.

Using her connections with Batman, Catwoman prevented Harley and Ivy from being arrested for their actions and claimed to see good in them. However, Ivy wasn't too thrilled to hear this, directing her anger at Batman. Challenging the caped crusader, massive roots sprung shoot through several buildings, even tearing one from the ground and ripping it in two.

2 Resurrection

Collage of Poison Ivy's Resurrections

Before she and Harley tried to do "official hero business," Poison Ivy was sent by Batman to a facility known as The Sanctuary following a mental break. Ivy had recently taken over the world (coming up in the next point) but relinquished her control thanks to Harley's help.

However, nearly everyone in the facility was mysteriously murdered during the Heroes in Crisis storyline. Harley kept a single rose that'd been apart of Ivy with her. Wally West used The Speed Force to accelerate Ivy's resurrection, but Ivy's mythical connection to The Green would have eventually renewed her. She also demonstrated her resurrecting abilities in the 2019 television series Harley Quinn.

1 Controlling The Entire World

Collage of those Ivy controls and Ivy on a throne

All Ivy has ever wanted to do is protect the Earth's environment. Since The Green connects the world, Ivy's powers can reach a global scale. In Batman #41, Ivy subjugated everyone on Earth – including Superman and Wonder Woman. Batman and Catwoman alone remained in control of their minds.

Ivy did this by manipulating the plant life all sentient things consumed, something she may have been capable of doing for years but never pushed herself hard enough to do. It required Ivy to have an immense amount of concentration, and she needed to be conscious to maintain her hold. With no cure in existence, Ivy was the only thing that could stop herself – with a little help from Harley Quinn.
