With HBO Max taking DC's Peacemaker and creating a TV show around him, there's plenty of comic book stories that the creators of the series could pull from. James Gunn is one of the creative minds behind the project, thanks to his work with the Suicide Squad.

The character will be featured in both projects and Gunn has a great track record of being inspired by stories from the source material and then adapting them to fit his own ideas of what the series could be. From his tragic origin to some of the other versions of the character and his disturbed activities throughout his anti-hero career, there's a lot to dissect about the narrative of Peacemaker.

10 Disturbed Origins

Peacemaker's origins were perhaps far more disturbing than most. In the comics, his original upbringing saw his life turned upside down at the age of five.  Peacemaker's father always had quite a murky past, which had a deep psychological impact on the anti-hero.

However, it was discovered that his father actually fought on behalf of the Nazi regime, even committing horrible war crimes. This haunted Peacemaker for a long time, with this origin story providing the key to his own outlook on justice.

9 War Tragedy

There's been plenty of wars across the DC Universe, many of them ending in some kind of Crisis. However, there are also wars that happened in reality, that had a large impact on the timeline of this superhero world. Peacemaker served in some of those wars.

While the actual conflict itself would likely be changed in live-action, one particular story saw Peacemaker make a number of bad choices that resulted in the massacre of innocent civilians. Haunted by his father, this came to reflect on the rest of his career.

8 Governmental Project

After serving time in prison and being taken out of the military, the US government thought that the Peacemaker could become an interesting project for them to use. A covert agency, therefore, started to train Christopher Smith.

Despite Peacemaker excelling in the program, it was eventually shut down, much to his frustration. It's likely that this could be a story that impacts the TV show, perhaps with an agency like ARGUS giving him the resources and abilities to fight crime.

7 Charitable Cause

After becoming a businessman and building up a surprising amount of wealth, Christopher opened up his own charity. As part of this, he suited up as the Peacemaker and started off as a relatively innocent vigilante.

His methods may have gotten more and more extreme, but the money and his own version of justice polluted his mind, allowing him to seemingly get away with what he wanted. These are interesting themes to play on in the TV show.

6 The Turning Point

DC's Peacemaker

The real turning point for Peacemaker is during a complex story involving one of the many Crisis. During this period of conflict, his mental state deteriorated and he became more and more violent. The war triggered something inside of him.

The TV show has to have some kind of catalyst that drives Peacemaker over the edge. Perhaps the DC Universe can go all out and have one of the many crossover events be referenced as the cause for Christopher's mental slip and new tactics in the field.

5 The Negative Woman

Valentina Vostok, who has been known as the Negative Woman, was a government agent who brought Christopher back into the fold and sought to control him further. The US government saw him as a useful and dangerous weapon.

Vostok used psychological help to try to center the Peacemaker so that he would be more predictable on the battlefield. It's likely that Amanda Waller may use a series of similar tricks to try to better control him.

4 Blue Beetle Partnership

At some stage, Christopher comes across the pyramids that gave Blue Beetle his powers. He seeks him out and the two form an alliance that quickly vanishes. Unfortunately, Peacemaker's mind is played with once more.

After being infected with a scarab beetle himself, this majorly affects him. It's possible that the annoying hero and the straight-faced anti-hero could team up on screen before parting ways, much like in the comics themselves.

Alternate Version of DC Peacemaker

Over the years there have been a number of attempts to control Peacemaker. The government has even tried to create new iterations of the character, in some kind of attempt to change the image of the vigilante.

The second version was specifically designed to stop Christopher, but that failed miserably. The third was supposedly a replacement. This concept could be put to great use in the TV show, if the original Peacemaker is hunting down all his replacements.

2 Presidential Assassination

In an alternate reality, the Peacemaker is working for the president, however, something doesn't seem quite right. As he begins to work out what's happening, he comes to the realization he must assassinate the corrupt ruler.

This is the kind of story that could set Peacemaker apart from other characters in the Suicide Squad. It may well be that he is the number one target for the US government, due to his assassination of the President, even though it was for a worthy cause.

1 Kingdom Come

DC Kingdom Come Peacemaker

In the Kingdom Come universe, Peacemaker actually looks like a Mandalorian, complete with a jetpack and changed helmet. This is a fun change in the character and one that could be reflected in the show.

If the HBO Max series was ever to be involved in some kind of Elseworlds story, which could happen due to its links to the Arrowverse and the DCEU, then this would be an interesting and fun story to explore.
