While the rest of the DC Universe battles a Dark Crisis, there's one DC book pulsing with all the heart and excitement. Nightwing #94 by writer Tom Taylor, artist Geraldo Borges, colorist Adriano Lucas, and letterer Wes Abbott continues to soar with a story that reinvigorates the former Boy Wonder. He's shaken off the shackles of being Batman's sidekick and the Teen Titans' leader, as he establishes himself as Bludhaven's one and true protector.

Change is in the air. After the former Bludhaven police commissioner is exposed for corruption, thanks to the help of Mayor Zucco, Batgirl, and Nightwing, Maggie Sawyer becomes the new sheriff in town. There's an excitement that engulfs everyone as Bludhaven is on the precipice of something special. However, Blockbuster isn't exactly thrilled that his empire is crumbling before his beady eyes. The hulking crime boss is angry, demanding to uncover the identity of the rat in his midst.

Taylor's run has been wrought with the narrative of Bludhaven being a dirty city. Scattered between the spandex shenanigans has been a crime thriller that questions if a rotten apple can truly be salvaged. In Nightwing #94, the chickens come home to roost for the crooked class. Taylor pumps the brakes on Bludhaven's web of deceit and focuses more on the action and consequences for the corrupt. That said, the story doesn't allow Dick Grayson and Barbara Gordon to sail off into the sunset, as it introduces another twist in the tale: Blockbuster's vengeance. Taylor asks an important question: will Nightwing ever be able to rest?

Borges takes over the art duties from Bruno Redondo in Nightwing #94. Considering the high praise Redondo's art has received so far, Borges has some very big shoes to fill. Fortunately, the artist more than proves his mettle by delivering an issue that fits in with the series both tonally and aesthetically. Borges' style might differ from Redondo's, but not drastically. Instead, it's a flawless change-up that brings new energy to the already thrilling series.

Once again, Lucas' bright colors showcase how Grayson is the light of the Bat-Family who refuses to be bogged down by the gloomy nature of the world around him. He might have been raised in the shadows by Batman, but his hope and optimism shine in the way he views and treats the world. Lucas captures this with a lively color palette. Abbott takes direct inspiration from the artwork and coloring, delivering lettering that fits in seamlessly with the overall look and tone of the book.

After years of being on the periphery and feeling like he was one Crisis away from being buried next to Alfred Pennyworth, the first Robin is getting a new lease on life. Nightwing #94 prolongs this sensational comic book run, which is quickly becoming a modern-day classic, by respecting the character but also bringing something new to the table. Taylor and his collaborators understand this character inside and out, proving yet again that he's in good hands.
