The following article contains spoilers from Monkey Prince #9, on sale now from DC Comics.

Monkey Prince, one of DC's newest heroes, exhibits a major crush on Supergirl in the latest issue of his solo series.

The awkward interaction occurs in Monkey Prince #9 after Supergirl runs into the super simian as she investigates deaths that occurred in a LexCorp lab. Monkey Prince -- who still hasn't met many members of DC's superhero community -- is immediately smitten with Supergirl, who's clad in her new outfit from Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths. "I've seen photos of her, of course, but they're always blurry," he muses. "Up close, she's something else."

Unfortunately, Monkey Prince and Supergirl get off the wrong foot and come to blows. Monkey Prince's excessive flirtation doesn't help matters much as he says Kara Zor-El has a "pretty little blonde head," and the issue ends with the two charging at each other.

Monkey Prince's Origins And Future

Created by Gene Luen Yang and Bernard Chang, Monkey Prince is Marcus Sun, a teenager who can transform into a superpowered monkey form. Inspired by Sun Wukong, one of the mythological protagonists of the 16th-century Chinese legend Journey to the West, Marcus first appeared in 2021's DC Festival of Heroes: The Asian Superhero Celebration #1. His solo series has seen him he's grapple with his abilities, learn how to be a better hero from his mentor Pigsy and battle enemies with a taste for superhero flesh.

Monkey Prince is slated to play a major role in the upcoming "Lazarus Planet" storyline spearheaded by writer Mark Waid next year. Spinning out of Waid and Mahmud Asrar's Batman vs. Robin series, "Lazarus Planet" sees the world covered in Lazarus resin due to a volcanic explosion. A synopsis of the story released in October reads, "Damian Wayne puts out a distress call for whoever can still hear it: come to the ruins of the Hall of Justice and help save the world! Blue Beetle, Power Girl, Cyborg, Batman, and more answer the call…but why could the fate of all life as we know it rest in the hands of…Monkey Prince?"
