DC and Milestone Media's Static, a character from the Milestone Universe, is taking over NASCAR driver Alex Bowman's Chevrolet Camaro.

Ally Financial, Milestone Media, DC and Warner Bros. Discovery unveiled the new paint design for Bowman's No. 48 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE of Hendrick Motorsports, which Bowman will race for July 10's Quaker State 400 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. The new look sees the Milestone Universe's Static -- a character created by Milestone Comics founders Dwayne McDuffie, Denys Cowan, Michael Davis and Derek T. Dingle who first appeared in 1993's Static #1 -- placed on the hood of the vehicle, while other electric components are further incorporated to the design.

Bowman will also wear a custom-made fire suit and hand-painted Milestone Universe helmet during the upcoming race. "Ally does a really good job of bringing the NASCAR community together and having Static on the car is another way Ally is doing it right," Bowman said in a statement. "I think it is really neat to have a superhero on the No. 48 Ally Chevy at Atlanta and to be able to help with Ally’s goal of making NASCAR more inclusive is a unique opportunity that I am proud to be a part of."

The new paint job is in support of the Milestone Initiative, a collaborative program between Ally, DC, Milestone Media and Warner Bros. Discovery that was announced in 2021. The Milestone Initiative aims to mentor and train the next generation of comic storytellers who come from Black and diverse backgrounds. "From its earliest days, Milestone has always been about mentorship, storytelling and shifting the paradigm when it comes to comic books and entertainment through our characters," Milestone Media partner and award-winning producer Reggie Hudlin said. "To have both The Milestone Initiative and our most popular Super Hero represented on the NASCAR stage is an incredible opportunity to share our vision and expose our mission to a new and evolving audience."

Ally chief marketing and public relations officer Andrea Brimmer added, "Ally believes representation matters which is why we teamed up with Milestone Media, DC and Warner Bros. Discovery to share the stories and history of Milestone Comics with a new generation. We’re committed to being a catalyst for change and celebrating diversity in everything we do. Our hope is that this incredible paint scheme, featuring an iconic Black superhero, will help make the sport we love a more inclusive space for all."

Milestone Media was founded in the early 1990s with the intent to provide representation for minorities who were otherwise largely absent in American comics. Published through DC Comics, Milestone Media is known for creating titles such as Static, Hardware, Blood Syndicate and more. DC and Milestone Media recently relaunched a new line of Milestone Universe properties beginning with 2020's Milestone Returns #0.
