  • The real Bruce Wayne returns to Gotham City as Batman, but Jason Todd doesn’t believe it’s really him after Hush posed as Bruce for all those months. And what will this mean for Jace, the Next Batman? Just when things can’t get any worse, another mysterious Batman attacks the Magistrate!  Also in this issue: the fate of Damian Wayne!

Future State: Gotham focuses on an alternate reality Gotham City established in DC's Future State event, which was originally published in 2021. In this continuity, Scarecrow's plot to turn Gotham into a police-state in the "Fear State" storyline of late 2021 succeeded, and masked vigilantes within the city are forever at risk of arrest.

In the eleven issues of Future State: Gotham released thus far, Red Hood has taken center stage, working as an undercover agent to dismantle the Magistrate. He believed that he was taking orders from Bruce Wayne, but Future State: Gotham #7 revealed that the shadowy puppeteer commanding him was none other than Hush in disguise.

Bruce Wayne and Jace Fox briefly crossed paths in Future State: Dark Detective, a four-part series released as part of the Future State event in 2021. The pair only spoke with each other for a few moments in an alley, and Jace was unaware of Bruce's true identity. Bruce, on the other hand, reflected "...Not my favorite feeling, eyeballing the guy who now has all my gear. Like looking in a mirror. Except you can only hope your reflection knows what it's doing."

Future State: Dark Detective ended dramatically, with Bruce Wayne seemingly sacrificing himself in an explosion inside the Magistrate's headquarters. Whether Future State: Gotham #14 is set before this finale or reveals that Bruce survived his apparent demise remains to be seen.

Future State: Gotham #14  goes on sale on June 14.
