Legends of Tomorrow was renewed for Season 6 in January 2020. However, like countless other major television productions, the series was impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic shortly after, and production resumed in October. In early February 2021, Legends of Tomorrow received an early Season 7 renewal as well.

"When a family loses a parent, and a bunch of children, Party of Five-style, have to raise themselves, it's gonna be really interesting," showrunner Phil Klemmer said of the Season 5 finale, which saw Sara Lance being abducted by aliens. "It's also going to afford Sara a chance to have a separate storyline."

DC's Legends of Tomorrow stars Caity Lotz, Dominic Purcell, Nick Zano, Tala Ashe, Matt Ryan, Olivia Swann, Jes Macallan, Adam Tsekhman, Shayan Sobhian, Lisseth Chavez and Raffi Barsoumian. Season 6 premieres Sunday, May 2 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
