Thanks to director Steven Spielberg's groundbreaking sci-fi movie, the term "Jurassic" has become synonymous with the Mesozoic Era, a time when dinosaurs reigned supreme, despite some species being millions of years apart on the evolutionary chart. And in keeping with the nomenclature, DC has created one of the most outlandish interpretations of their pantheon of characters. Welcome to a fictitious world where your favorite Justice League characters stomp about as various species of dinosaur, showcasing their same old personalities in a different light. Written by Juan Gedeon and Daniel Warren Johnson with artwork from Gedeon and Mike Spicer and lettering by Ferran Delgado, Jurassic League #2 gets the ball rolling in this six-issue limited series of utter dino-pandemonium.

Jurassic League #2 opens with a human child following Batsaur, much to his annoyance, after the latter saved the child from the jaws of the psychopathic Jokerzard. Batsaur tries to shoo away the child, yet circumstances force him to protect the child again and again. Suddenly they feel a massive tremor and rush to the site to find two dinosaurs attacking the human settlement of Metraaaghpolis. A great fight breaks out with Supersaur defending his people against the onslaught of Giganta and Brontozarro. As innocent people get caught in the destruction, Batsaur jumps into action to protect the defenseless. Meanwhile, Wonderdon leaves her homeland to seek the heroes in her vision.

Supersaur tries to save his tribe in Jurassic League #2

In a dinosaur-eat-dinosaur world, it is hard to be human. Luckily, there are some dinos virtuous enough to protect these fragile, defenseless creatures. Jurassic League #2 jumps straight into a heated battle as good dinos and bad dinos duke it out in a brutal dust-up. It is often said that the fires of adversity forge the strongest friendships, and the first meeting of Supersaur and Batsaur mirrors that exact sentiment. The two hit it off immediately on account of their common goals. Johnson slowly introduces the coming together of dino-heroes amidst the rising evil. There is no time lost among the panels as the book transitions between storylines in quick succession.

While paleontology enthusiasts may have a few complaints about the dinosaurs on display in this series, from a design standpoint, they look absolutely fantastic. Gedeon gives each character their own anthropomorphic character traits to match the personalities fans know and love. He puts these fun, over-the-top designs to good use in the larger-than-life action scenes. Mike Spicer complements Gedeon's wacky artwork with colors full of life and breath. Be it the bulging veiny hands of Supersaur knocking Giganta out or the saliva-spitting, growling visage of Batsaur, each panel brims with power and intensity. Meanwhile, letterer Ferran Delgado does an excellent job of keeping the fun going using all kinds of techniques at his disposal to add some excitement to every element of this comic.
