Reincarnated since his first life in Ancient Egypt, Carter Hall has accumulated numerous lifetimes' worth of experience, both as himself and as the superhero Hawkman. In an upcoming issue of the comic series, Carter will revisit one of his most tragic past lives: as a traveling plague doctor in 17th century Europe.

DC has released an unlettered preview of next month's Hawkman #23 by Robert Venditti, Marcio Takara and Fernando Pasarin, as Carter recalls being a traveling physician at the height of the Black Death. The preview pages, along with the standard cover illustrated by Mikel Janin and variant cover illustrated by Gerardo Zaffino, are below.
