DC Implements staggered shipments of Dark Knight Strikes Again, other details

Official Press Release

DC Comics is pleased to announce that in order to ensure consistent availability of THE DARK KNIGHT STRIKES AGAIN #1, retailers can choose when they will receive copies over the first four weeks of release. The October Previews Retailer Order Form features four separate order lines for DK2 #1, allowing retailers a variety of shipment options.

First, retailers can order their entire shipment of the issue on the first order form line, to arrive in stores on 12/5/2001.

Second, retailers can place guaranteed orders to receive copies in four shipments over the book's first four weeks of release as follows:

  • Copies ordered on the FIRST order line will arrive in-store on 12/5
  • Copies ordered on the SECOND order line will arrive 12/12
  • Copies ordered on the THIRD order line will arrive 12/19
  • Copies ordered on the FOURTH order line will arrive 12/26

Retailers can, of course, order copies to arrive on the FIRST and THIRD weeks, or any other permutation they choose.

"This will help retailers with advance planning, taking into account consumer demand so that you can budget for the entire month," says Bob Wayne, DC's VP - Sales & Marketing. "And, in keeping with DC's standard retailer-friendly policies, we will keep all three issues of THE DARK KNIGHT STRIKES AGAIN available for reorders."

Please note that any reorders will not affect original orders, and that copies cannot be shuffled to arrive earlier than indicated on the original order. All of these orders will count toward December discount levels.

In the interest of supplying retailers with reordered copies of THE DARK KNIGHT STRIKES AGAIN #1 as quickly as possible, DC announces that all overprinted copies of this issue will be warehoused at all six Diamond Distribution Centers in Atlanta, Baltimore, Los Angeles, Plattsburgh, Star/Tru, and in the U.K in Warrington.

In order to help retailers budget for THE DARK KNIGHT STRIKES AGAIN #1, DC Comics and Diamond Comic Distributors have devised a plan that allows an extra 30 days billing to all qualifying accounts, as determined by DCD, who will make an announcement concerning qualifications at a later date. This option applies to initial orders only.

"This will be a great help for retailers as they seek to maximize their sales of Frank Miller's and Lynn Varley's exciting new project," said Bob Wayne, DC's VP - Sales & Marketing. "We commend Diamond for taking this step to help retailers on DK2, in addition to their months of planning to ensure a constant supply of DK2 to retailers."

"We are happy to join with DC in assuring that retailers will be able to get, stock, and sell as many copies of THE DARK KNIGHT STRIKES AGAIN as possible," said Roger Fletcher, Diamond Vice President of Marketing. "Together, Diamond and DC are taking every step to help our customers profit from this much anticipated series."
