Wolverine is the epitome of rage. While he has matured into a leader, a lover, and a level minded tactician, at the core of Logan is an animal. His rage is just as essential to his character as his claws are. For someone to work with Logan, that is something they must understand. Wolverine is one of the few X-Men that has killed, and repeatedly, without mercy. For a brief moment in X-Men history, Scott Summers enlisted Wolverine to create X-Force, a secret team of mutant assassins. The mutants he surrounded himself with: Domino, Deadpool, Wolfsbane, Warpath, X-23, and others were killers. It appears that Wolverine functions the best when he does not have to be restrained, and his days as an Avenger are restricted at best. He needs to be free to do what he does best, and he is the best at what he does.

In the DC Universe, there are several characters that would work well with Wolverine. Over at DC, anti-heroes are abundant. The good guys who understand that to get things done, sometimes a little blood needs to be spilled. Not cold-hearted or cruel, but willing to cross that boundary most heroes would not. The loners who appear to be begrudging leaders, or anti-heroes with a painful incentive. On the opposite end of the spectrum, there are the tried and true boy scout heroes over at DC that wouldn't match up well with someone of Logan's temperament. This is our list of the 5 DC heroes who would pair up with Wolverine the best, and the 5 that the stubborn mutant couldn't stand.

10 Zatanna (Great Team-Up)

Zatanna, a powerful sorceress, and Wolverine would pair very well together. Wolverine does enjoy fighting evil alongside gorgeous women, and has entered into several physical relationships with the women of the X-Men.

Zatanna has a powerful leadership quality that Wolverine is attracted too, and she is also confident and fearless in her craft. Her dark powers have subsequently introduced her to a dark life, one that Wolverine could fit into easily. Both characters have unresolved issues with their past, so they stubbornly get fixated on a mission as if to drown out their deeper thoughts.

9 Beast Boy (Bad Team-Up)

The colorful and playful Beast Boy is a different type of animal. Wolverine is the type to give in to his animal urges in a dangerous way, while Beast Boy is more like comedic relief. Both heroes suffered losses in their past, although Beast Boy seems to emanate happiness while Logan gives off a strong energy of remorse or anger.

Beast Boy is typically uncalculated and very headstrong, something that would annoy Logan who would prefer to look at things from a realistic perspective. The playful and animated nature of the shapeshifter would be seen as bothersome behavior by Wolverine, who would opt to work with someone less talkative.

8 John Constantine (Great Team-Up)

Another powerful sorcerer, John Constantine is a perfect match for Wolverine. The British warlock is cynical, sarcastic, ill-tempered, but impeccable at getting the job done. His destructive nature sometimes alienates him and pushes him away from those that would be his allies or lovers.

Constantine is a reluctant leader, and a truly violent man if pushed. He and Wolverine would mesh well together in a sardonic adventure. Although their partnership may be short-lived, these two heroes are experts who will get the dirty work done while the morally handcuffed heroes stress over options.

7 Barry Allen (Bad Team-Up)

Typically portrayed as a jokester, Barry Allen is an outwardly happy and charming guy. His wisecracks keep the Justice League's morale high and his presence has been a glue that holds the team together. Wolverine tends to avoid the smug, easily excited, optimistic, joking types as much as he can (although Deadpool is never too far).

Barry is quick to jump to conclusions, possibly a side effect of his ability to be quick at everything else. Wolverine likes to be more certain and uncompromising in his decisions. While the two wouldn't be enemies, it's hard to see the bouncy and energetic Barry Allen partner up with the somber and cynical Wolverine.

6 Jason Todd (Great Team-Up)

The second Robin died and came back a different person. Jason Todd's no-nonsense mentality would make Wolverine proud. The two anti-heroes have shed blood effortlessly in their attempts to save innocent lives. Both men also started out as villains, but more so due to their creations.

Jason Todd was killed and resurrected in the Lazur Pits by Ra's al Ghul, which turned him insane and fueled his rage. Wolverine was pushed through the Weapon X program which drove him crazy and unlocked a rage within him that was unlike anything the world has seen. Todd and Logan would make a fearsome duo.

5 Shazam (Bad Team-Up)

The last thing Wolverine wants to do is babysit kids. Recently, Logan has become a headmaster at a school for gifted children, but that is a serious 180-degree turn for the character. While Wolverine has kept an eye on the younger members of Xavier's teams for decades, he is infamous for judging them as immature and unready for true battle. If Wolverine is to step in war, he doesn't want a kid by his side, no matter how powerful.

Whether it be to protect a child's innocence or just to escape the annoyance of dealing with kids, Wolverine will avoid teaming up with children whenever possible. Although Shazam may be an adult on the outside, his childlike persona would not fit well with Logan's mature musings.

4 Lobo (Great Team-Up)

Lobo carrying a sizeable weapon.

Another villain turned anti-hero, Lobo is a loner and a killer. There was once a crossover between the two anti-heroes where the fans could vote on who would win a battle between the two. Wolverine lost, but that is more of a testament to his popularity than his power.

Lobo, who has gone toe to toe with Superman, would easily beat Wolverine. Together though, the two men would be unstoppable. Wolverine would be accustomed to Lobo's style of justice, his lone wolf persona, and his dedication to complete the mission by any means necessary.

3 Booster Gold (Bad Team-Up)

Booster Gold would be considered a sell-out and somewhat of a fraud to Wolverine. Although he has matured nicely since his debut, Booster Gold started out as a pompous hero that was just in it for the press.

He is from the future, and travels back in time in order to amass wealth. Booster stops crimes he knows will happen and uses the fame to get movie and merchandise deals. Wolverine would scoff at the idea of being a hero for press and fame, and would quickly turn down any opportunity to work with Booster.

2 Thomas Wayne (Great Team-Up)

Although Bruce Wayne's Batman would be a cool team-up for Wolverine, Thomas Wayne would be a much better pairing. In the alternate Flashpoint universe, Thomas Wayne becomes Batman after his wife and son are murdered in an alley. Thomas has no qualms about taking life, and murders villains without care. The same can be said for Wolverine.

The Canadian mutant will plunge his claws into anyone standing in his way, without question. Thomas understands his pain is what makes him dangerous, which is something Logan also recognizes. Together, they would become what villains have nightmares about.

1 Superman (Bad Team-Up)

Wolverine rarely plays well with boy scout heroes, and Superman is that guy. Much like Cyclops and Captain America —heroes that have gotten under Logan's skin— Superman is too altruistic to do what needs to be done. Superman is usually calculated and polite, opting to go for the truce rather than flex his muscles if it isn't necessary.

His squeaky clean image and God-like status in Metropolis would probably be sickening for Logan to witness. Not to mention, Superman's strict no killing rule would earn him an eye roll from the mutant. It's safe to say these two would not get along very well.
