In the Marvel Universe, the story continues far beyond the borders of Earth's solar system. The greatest threats the heroes face come from all corners of the galaxy, threats that need someone to fight them. The Guardians of the Galaxy fill that role. They are one of the first lines of defense against everything waiting in the darkness of space to rule, if not destroy, the entire universe.

While the roster is quite flexible, the team is most frequently led by Star-Lord, a human/alien hybrid that took on the mission of defeating all the evil that lurks in the shadows. But that's in the Marvel Universe. The heroes of the DC Universe present some unique challenges.

10 LOSE TO: Adam Strange

Originally dragged to Rann by an errant Zeta Beam, Adam Strange became that planet's most prom hero. He defended it from all manners of invasive forces. While he doesn't have powers, Adam is a highly intelligent and a master strategist. He also has access to advanced technology from the planet Rann.

While Star-Lord also has advanced technology and a mind for strategy in battle, he's not at Strange's level. Even if Star-Lord caught him off guard, Adam would be quick to devise a counterattack that would defeat the leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy.

9 DEFEAT: Hawkman

There are a lot of iterations of Hawkman, but they all have similar weapons and abilities. Each iteration uses the Nth Metal to fly as well as archaic weapons in combat. The Nth Metal also gives him enhanced strength and healing. These abilities have allowed him to take on opponents from all over the DC Universe, not that he won every one of those fights. But all of his weapons and fighting skills would not be enough to overcome Star-Lord.

The technology Star-Lord has access to outclasses the tech Hawkman has, and Star-Lord might atually be more proficient with his. It would be a close fight but one that Star-Lord would win.

8 LOSE TO: Starfire

Princess Koriand'r escaped to Earth when her home planet of Tamaran fell into chaos. Alongside Robin, she became a charter member of the Teen Titans and one of her adopted home planet's greatest heroes. Starfire's physiology gives her the ability to fly, super strength, durability and can throw energy blasts called starbolts.

Beyond that, she is a highly trained warrior who is highly trained in combat. Star-Lord would have a huge problem with Starfire, which is the polite way of stating she could kick his butt all the way back to Knowhere.

7 DEFEAT: Jemm

Jemm, a Saturnian in DC Comics, holding up his arms.

The history of life on Mars in DC is a complicated one, more so when you add in the Saturnians. They were cloned by the Martians from their own DNA, creating different colors of Saturnians the same way there are different colored Martians. As a red Saturnian, Jemm can't shapeshift but he is super strong, can fly, is a telepath and can fire psychokinetic blasts.

That being said, Star-Lord would most likely take him in combat. Jemm is powerful but not as dominant as someone like Martian Manhunter. Plus, he is vulnerable to fire and Star-Lord has been known to carry elemental blasters. Yes, fire is an option.

6 LOSE TO: Martian Manhunter

While Jemm might not be able to take Star-Lord, Martian Manhunter can. The Green Martian has many of the same powers as Jemm, including telepathy, but he also has more options to play with. The big one is his shapeshifting ability, which is something Star-Lord simply cannot overcome.

Even though Martian Manhunter has the same vulnerabilities that Jemm does, Star-Lord has to be able to see him coming to hit him with fire. The Manhunter can disguise himself as anyone, then attack him with overwhelming force. He's just too powerful for Star-Lord to handle.

5 DEFEAT: Orion

Darksied's son is raw power personified, and is frequently just barely has his rage under control. He's kind of like a space faring Hulk in some ways. But Orion's biggest problem is containing his power and being able to focus it in the right direction. That's where Star-Lord comes in.

The man is an expert at master at manipulating powerhouses with more strength than brains. Orion would fly in at full speed and without thinking, then Star-Lord would catch him off guard with an insane plan that ends with Orion being trapped in a completely different reality.

4 LOSE TO: Big Barda

Big Barda, on the other hand, would absolutely wreck Star-Lord. Like Orion, Big Barda is a member of the New Gods and served under Darkseid until she made the transition to being a full time hero. Big Barda is as strong as Wonder Woman and as talented a fighter.

She also regularly uses technology from the New Gods and Apokolips that enhances her already formidable abilities. Gamora and Drax might be able to take Big Barda on and win but Star-Lord lacks the power to take down someone with her skill. This one would have to be a team effort.

3 DEFEAT: Mister Miracle

Mister Miracle

There are a few people to wear the mantle of Mister Miracle but Scott Free is the one most are familiar with. A child of New Genesis, he met Big Barda when she served Darkseid. They would eventually get married. Like Barda, he has enhanced physical abilities, though he's not as powerful as his wife. But he's also an incredible escape artist. His costume is made of advanced technology that allows him to perform a variety of seemingly miraculous acts.

All of that being said, he doesn't have the edge to take Star-Lord down. Unfortunately, Star-Lord defeating Miracle Man would end up with Star-Lord receiving a beating from Big Barda.

2 LOSE TO: Green Lantern

The Green Lantern Corps is spread out across the universe, each one getting a sector to defend. They have been selected to wield a Green Lantern ring and the incredible power that comes with it. Hal Jordan is the most famous of the Lanterns, protecting the universe from a multitude of threats.

As long as you ignore the whole Parallax incident, he's consistently been one of the greatest heroes around. A Green Lantern's ring is one of the most powerful weapons around, and few wield it better than Jordan. Star-Lord does not have the depth in his arsenal to take on someone like this and win.

1 DEFEAT: Cosmic Boy

In the future, the Legion of Super-Heroes is the most formidable team protecting the universe. One of the key founding member is Cosmic Boy, a hero with magnetic powers, which primarily allow him to manipulate metal. He also wears a Legion ring which gives him the power to fly, as it does all member of the Legion of Super-Heroes.

As respected a hero as he is, Cosmic Boy simply could not take down the Star-Lord. He doesn't match up with Star-Lord in strategy or combat experience. Cosmic Boy might be able to mess with Star-Lord's metal weapons but he would figure out a way to overcome that and win.
