Ra's al Ghul has proven to be one of DC's wiliest villains. As the League of Assassins' master, Ra's al Ghul has used the Lazarus Pits for years to keep him alive and has spent the ensuing centuries cementing his base of power. He has one goal and that's to drastically reduce the human race so the Earth has a chance to come back from years of abuse. This has put him in the sights of many heroes over the years.

While most people only know him as a Batman villain, al Ghul has battled many heroes over the years, giving them a good fight, but losing in the end.

10 Green Arrow Has Defeated al Ghul

Green Arrow Readies His Bow

Green Arrow and League of Assassins member Merlyn have been enemies for a long time, but Green Arrow has also battled the master of the League as well. Ra's al Ghul is Green Arrow's superior in every way but Ollie is used to that kind of fight. Ra's al Ghul bit off more than he could chew when he fought Green Arrow.

Green Arrow isn't Batman caliber but he's still tough as nails. He always finds a way to win even when he's up against foes who should be way above his level. Green Arrow's defeat of Ra's al Ghul shows just how great he can be.

9 Black Canary Added Ra's al Ghul To The Long List Of People She's Beaten

Black Canary from BOP kicking while saying I'm Really Good

Black Canary is one of DC's toughest heroes, whether she's a member of the Justice League, the Justice Society, or the Birds of Prey. The list of villains she's beaten is very long and she's proven to be one of the best hand-to-hand fighters on the planet, only using her superpowers when she really needs them. Black Canary has actually fought Ra's al Ghul several times over the years and has always been able to beat him.

Black Canary beating Ra's al Ghul isn't super surprising because it's just what she does. It's more surprising that she fought him at all but as usual, Black Canary owned him.

8 Roy Harper Helped Take Down al Ghul When He Was An Outlaw

Roy Harper Red Arrow

Roy Harper is a lot tougher than he gets credit, not just because of his years as a superhero but because he was able to overcome addiction. He's been a member of the Teen Titans, the Outsider, the Justice League, and the Outlaws and it was with that last team that he fought al Ghul. Between him, Starfire, and Red Hood, they were able to defeat Ra's al Ghul.

Much like his mentor, Harper is way tougher than most people realize and he was a big help against al Ghul. His variety of skills and his amazing toughness served him well in that battle.

7 Starfire Was Part Of The Outlaws When They Beat Ra's al Ghul

Starfire uses her powers, creating green energy around her hands in DC Comics

Starfire is usually the most powerful member of whatever team she's on and the Outlaws were no different. Starfire's time with the Outlaws wasn't exactly a fan favorite time for her, as the writers of the book sexualized the character. She was still the team's powerhouse, though, and made a lot of difference in the battle against Ra's al Ghul.

Of all Outlaws' members, Starfire is the only one who probably didn't need the whole team to help her beat Ra's al Ghul. She's skilled and powerful and it would be great to see her get a chance to fight al Ghul on her own.

6 Red Hood Has Battled Ra's al Ghul Many Times

An image of Red Hood with Task Force Z

As Robin, Jason Todd helped Batman fight Ra's al Ghul but he didn't get to face him on his own until after his resurrection. Todd was brought back by Talia al Ghul and trained by the League of Assassins but escaped them to start his war against Batman and the Joker. Jason Todd became much more brutal as Red Hood and it stayed that way even after he became a hero again.

Eventually, Red Hood would face al Ghul both on his own and with his team the Outlaws. He was able to win every time, taking the League of Assassins training he was given and showing al Ghul that he was better than anyone knew.

5 Nightwing Has Been Able To Beat Ra's al Ghul As His Own

Nightwing Swinging His Sticks.

While he was Robin, Ra's al Ghul had very little respect for Dick Grayson, often capturing him to use against Batman. He'd learn how much of a mistake that was in later years, when Dick Grayson became Nightwing. Nightwing has had some tremendous fights over the years and his battle against Ra's al Ghul was no different.

Nightwing proved to Ra's al Ghul that he was more than just a sidekick to be used against Batman. The fight wasn't easy for Nightwing, as Ra's al Ghul is even a challenge to Batman, but he was able to win the fight, getting revenge for all of those kidnappings when he was younger.

4 Deathstroke Has Battled Ra's al Ghul When He Was Being More Heroic

Deathstroke Looming Over Gotham.

Deathstroke is mostly known for being a villain, having beaten some of the toughest heroes in the DC Universe. Deathstroke has also been a hero and fought a lot of villains, including Ra's al Ghul. Deathstroke and Ra's al Ghul are actually a great match for each other. Both of them are smart, strong, and amazingly skilled and their fight was one for the ages.

Deathstroke was able to get the win over Ra's al Ghul in an impressive battle between the two of them. One of the saddest things about Deathstroke as a villain is losing out on great fights like this one and it would be fun to see the two clash again.

3 Damian Wayne Has Beaten His Grandfather

Damian Wayne As Robin Against An Orange Background

Since Damian Wayne became Robin, Ra's al Ghul hasn't really been clashing with Batman very often. One of the most memorable times was when he tried to take over Damian's body but other than that, there have been very few times when Damian and al Ghul got to fight. In the run-up to Batman and Catwoman's wedding, they did, and Damian was able to win.

Damian was always more of a brutal Robin than others and he used all of the training from both the League of Assassins and Batman against his grandfather. He was able to beat Ra's singlehandedly, probably the first time a preteen has beaten him in a one-on-one fight.

2 The Justice League Was Able To Overcome Ra's al Ghul's Near Perfect Plan

JLA New World Order - Aquaman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman, and The Flash

Saying the Justice League beat Ra's al Ghul seems like it should be a no-brainer, but he put a legendary beating on them. Using Batman's anti-Justice League plans, Ra's al Ghul and the League of Assassins were able to devastate the League like few others have. While they were able to come back and defeat him with the help of Batman, the damage was done.

The Justice League didn't like finding out that Batman had secretly come up with ways that could beat them and this caused a schism on the team. So, while the Justice League won the battle, Ra's al Ghul did more damage to the team than anyone suspected.

1 The Legion Of Superheroes Overcame Ra's al Ghul Even With The Odds Completely Against Them

The Legion Of Superheroes Justice League

The Legion of Superheroes consists of the most powerful heroes of the future and they were almost not enough against Ra's. Ra's al Ghul was able to get elected leader of the United Planets and used that position to attack the team, proving that teams were no big deal when Ra's al Ghul was involved. It took a lot of work but they were able to beat him.

Ra's al Ghul is a master strategist and while he wasn't able to beat the Legion, he put up a much better fight against them than anyone imagined he could.
