A first look at cover art for the next and final edition in the comic series Batman: White Knight Presents Harley Quinn reveals Harley in a new suit that pays homage to the caped crusader himself. The new look takes center stage in some of the series' cover art, posted to Twitter. The spotlight cover is by White Knight mini-series co-creator Sean Murphy, with colors by Matt Hollingsworth. Variant cover art was done by Matteo Scalera, with coloring also by Hollingsworth.Related: Batman: White Knight Reveals What Broke the Joker

Harley's new look omits the classic clown makeup and jester hat and replaces it with black lipstick and a more vigilante-style hood, to better suit her new role as a detective with a dark past. The suit itself features the iconic harlequin diamond patterning in a much more understated grey and black with minimal yellow tactical gear. This choice illustrates the noir themes of the comic as well as overtly mirroring Batman's own suit; a nod to their role reversal and their new partnership throughout the series arc.

According to the series co-writers Katana Collins and Sean Murphy, the original outfit seen earlier in the comic was inspired by Batman: The Animated Series, as the creators missed the classic rendition and the madcap aspects of her character.

Taking place in an alternate continuity from the core DC universe, the Batman: White Knight Presents Harley Quinn series by DC Black Label exists in what is colloquially known as the Murphyverse, named for its creator. Harley Quinn takes a titular role in her own comic first published in October of 2020, which follows recently concluded events of the Batman: Curse of the White Knight maxi-series. In this universe, Murphy offers a modern interpretation of what constitutes a villain and the cycle of crime in Gotham by reversing the roles of Batman and The Joker.

In this timeline, the Joker (aka Jack Napier) has reformed and views Batman and his violent methods as the greatest threat facing Gotham, vowing to conquer the city as a politician. After the events of the Curse of the White Knight left the Joker dead and Batman behind bars, an undeniable vacuum was created in Gotham, and the new mother of twins, Harley Quinn, was left for the first time to build herself a new identity. Harley has since been foiling serial killers, working with the FBI and even dealing with an imposter Harley, but mostly the hyena-loving heroine is dissecting the ways her past will affect her future.

Written by Katana Collins and Sean Murphy and illustrated by Matteo Scalera, Batman: White Knight Presents Harley Quinn from DC Comics is on sale now.
