Brian Michael Bendis' comic book crossover event Event Leviathan is poised to cause serious ramifications across the DC Universe as intelligence agencies around the world are targeted by the shadowy supervillain. Among those dissolved is S.H.A.D.E., an organization tasking monsters to fight other monsters.

From the ashes of S.H.A.D.E.'s destruction comes a new series: Gotham City Monsters by writer Steve Orlando and artist Amancay Nahuelpan. First unveiled on Horror DNA, the new series has the former organization's star operative Frankenstein recruit Killer Croc, Orca, Lady Clayface and the vampire Andrew Bennett to take on his former mentor Melmoth, with the fate of the DCU hanging in the balance. The cover, illustrated by Philip Tan, appears below:

According to the series description,

Leviathan has dismantled S.H.A.D.E.—and that means Frankenstein is once again a free agent! Now he can set his sights on his former mentor, Melmoth, the one evil that got away. With bad things happening all across the Multiverse, this may be Frankenstein’s last shot at setting things right. Of course, Melmoth has his own agenda, and it’s going to take more than a lone monster to take him down. So Frankenstein heads to Gotham City in search of allies and recruits Killer Croc, Lady Clayface, Orca and vampire Andrew Bennett. But will even these dread creatures be enough to save humanity before the entire cosmos collapses in on itself?

Outside of an appearance in the pages of Superman, Frankenstein has largely kept a low profile during the DC Rebirth era. With this new series spinning out of Event Leviathan, the monstrous hero is poised to be back, saving the day from the shadows.

Steve Orlando and Amancay Nahuelpan's Gotham City Monsters #1 is scheduled to go on sale on September 11 from DC Comics.
