With all of the DC Universe's timelines on the brink of total annihilation in the special Generations Shattered #1, the one hero best equipped to save all of reality is Booster Gold. A time traveler from the 25th century, Michael Jon Carter traveled back to the relative present of the DCU seeking fortune and glory as a makeshift superhero with stolen technology.

And while the classic, glory hound incarnation of Booster is among the heroes assembled to save the space-time continuum, it is an older, more altruistic version of Booster that kicks off the plan to preserve reality.

Old Man Booster Gold

With chronal storms rapidly consuming the DCU's various divergent timelines, Kamandi can barely stay one step ahead of its destructive energy. An older Booster appears, now with his loyal robotic companion Skeets attached to his left wrist, traveling to Kamandi's timeline via a Time Sphere. Grizzled and sporting a full beard with graying hair, this Booster is much more serious than his classic, goofy counterpart as he recruits Kamandi to his time-traveling team. Old Man Booster Gold's time is limited, however, as he is mortally wounded by a stray arrow from a barbarian warrior, surviving just long enough to pass Skeets, his Time Sphere, and his gravely important mission to Kamandi before succumbing to his wounds.

This isn't the only instance an older Booster Gold has appeared, surfacing when his younger self needed more guidance in saving the day. In the immediate aftermath of the crossover event Blackest Night, Booster and his sister Michelle, who had accompanied him centuries in their past, were greeted by an older vision of Booster. This elder Booster was a master of time-travel and navigating the DC Multiverse through Hypertime, the branching timelines that comprised the main DCU timeline. The older Booster not only helped train Time Master Rip Hunter but also the classic Booster by proxy, subtly steering his own destiny.

Even with the old Booster gone, Skeets is still programmed to recall his master's mission and quickly attaches itself to Kamandi's wrist. The unlikely pair travel to different timelines that similarly are facing obliteration by the impending chronal storm. One of the most surprising additions to the team is a younger Booster Gold, who was more motivated by corporate sponsorships and profit margins than actually protecting the innocent from harm, evident as he enters his older self's Time Sphere.

The DCU has introduced various older iterations of icons, including Bruce Wayne in different alternate futures, and even Booster's one-time paramour Harley Quinn in the miniseries Old Lady Harley. Another Old Man Booster Gold has been introduced only to have his own role in his reality-saving mission abruptly cut short by the perils of Kamandi's world in the aftermath of the cataclysmic Great Disaster. Booster Gold is on a mission to save all of time and space again, with an ensemble led by his version of Skeets and Kamandi picking up from Michael Jon Carter's last directive to stop the chronal storm's destructive rampage.
