From Themyscira to Metropolis, and 1941 to 2016, Wonder Women has been a staple of superhero culture.  Few characters have had the ability to transcend time as well as she has. What began as a light nod to the female sex has become a massive statement for equality and female empowerment. She has served as an icon across gender and cultural lines. As a feminist symbol, she has been a symbol everyone can identify with. Through the decades, few characters have seen the sheer number of ensembles Wonder Woman has. Even the most die-hard fans would be hard-pressed to tell the difference between the 1969 Wonder Woman and the 1972 version (it's mostly the shorts and the boots).RELATED: Wonder Woman: The 5 Best Versions Of The TV Hero (& The Five Worst)What's more, is that Wonder Woman isn't just for the ladies. This particular image by Cantera Image and Nerdcaliber showcases a more modern version of the Wonder Woman made popular by Gal Gadot. Also inspiring this look is the DC reboot just after the events of Flashpoint.  The change brought Wonder Woman back to her roots as a warrior. Gone are the patriotic United States references and her skirt and shorts were exchanged for an armored look that would be more appropriate for a woman going into battle. In place of a headband, she wears a protective helmet and her boots are now heavily armored.  It was also during this time where in addition to the cape, Wonder Woman also wielded a sword.

9 Wonder Woman 2016

Via: Gaygeekuniverse, this Wonder Man is an even more true to nature version of the 2016 Gal Dagot Wonder Woman incarnation. For this particular depiction, designer Michael Wilkinson did his homework when looking into the nature of life on Themyiscera.

Essentially a training ground for the most fearsome Amazonian warriors the styling was modeled after the armor worn by Greek soldiers. The colors and fabrics reflected a hand made rustic quality over the traditionally seen bright spandex and lycra of her previous looks and the looks of her superhero peers.

8 A New Wonder-full Generation

Similarly, in this costume, Dennisngocho combines a little bit of the most current Wonder Woman look with cape introduced in the aftermath of Flashpoint.  Especially detailed here are the embellishments and texture on the shield and bodice of the upper armor. Again the pleating of the fabric gives the look and structure of the costume actually being made of genuine leather, as would be the case if it had been made on a hidden island unvisited by man. The details extend down to the footwear which brings together a complete head-to-toe look.

7 Wonder Woman Classic

Here, Cosplaylove2 pretty much nails his 1987 Wonder Woman aside from the cut of the pant (which more closely resemble the 1969 or 1975 looks). From the gold trim around the base as well as the white stripe on boot and the very full hair, he is a dead ringer.

Along with some of the changes made to the costume during this time period;  the heels on the ends of the boots were removed and did not come back as the character continued to evolve from that point on.

6 An Androdgenous Approach

Dhareza strikes a pose with a modern-day look inspired by the 2016 Wonderwoman film. In addition to taking some liberties with the design style, there are also some tweaks that play around with the gendering of the costume itself. The armbands feature gold embellishments leather grips. The upper torso appears to be designed with a man's silhouette in mind. Likewise, the pleated skirt extends into slakes for a look that blurs gender lines. His costume also features a scabbard as would be seen on the modern-day costume but the eagle is a callback to pre 2006 looks.

5 Alternate Past Steampunk Wonder Woman

This creative take on Wonder Woman by David Berger is his very sleek adaptation of a Wonder Woman from an alternate timeline. The patriotic stars on the sleeves reference the original decorations on Wonder Woman's shorts while the combination of the "W" on the jacket and the eagle on the shirt brings together most of the heroine's previous signature emblems.

He rocks a silver headband very much like the one worn by the New 52 2011 Wonder Woman while the stylized jacked speaks truer to the 2010 outfit.  Even more interesting is that he appears to be standing next to a steampunk Wonder Worman as well!

4 Less Wonder is More Woman

Who's afraid to show a little bit of skin?  The phrase less is more comes to mind.  These intricately placed tokens to Amazonian demi-goddess warrior princess are all that's needed to make exactly the kind of statement this cosplayer is going for. In place of boots, it appears he has opted for a pullover boot covers in the style of the earlier Wonder Women. A star-spangled bottom and leather harness top with a gold eagle over the chest really brings everything together in a truly confident portrayal.  As a matter of fact, this is the only look on the list made up entirely of accessories.

3 Mix-n-Match Wonderwoman

Another clever use of accessories, Jimmysherfy dons a simple red top.  With some excellently crafted matching armbands and headband. The gold and red star combination was first shown as a part of the 2015 New 52 Wonder Woman, where she combined leggings and thigh-high boots and long sleeves.  The red star adorned her golden headband.

The shoulder armor was made of gold as well and featured stars as well.  The change was an attempt to depict the character's maturation from princess to queen of the Amazons and established her standing the other members of the Justice League.

Princesschriscosplay has taken a page from the 2015 Super Hero Girls with the should armor as well as the Post-Infinite Crisis costume which features the eagle across the chest which belonged to the original 1941 costume (through the years the eagle was transformed into a decorative "W"). The full wrist to elbow silver armbands were introduced int he 1995 Post-Crisis IV version and the double-pointed headband premiered with the Post Crisis 1987 ensemble.

1 Wonder Barrowman

Of course, the best has been saved for last!  Here we have the charming John Barrowman rocking his sequined take on the classic wonder woman costume circa 1987 or the Post-Crisis IV Wonder Woman. This subtly butch take features a collard button down and appears to have been custom made especially for the Dr. Who Star's proportions. Gal Gadot aught to keep her eyes on this one. Barrowman is clearly living his best most Wonder-full life and reminds us all that even the stars need to let go and just feel like a woman from time to time.
