DC Comics recently announced DC Future State a new line of comics that chronicles the fraught future of the DC Universe and will feature heroes both old and new, including Batman, Superman and Justice League.

Future State: Batman/Superman #1 is just one of several new miniseries to be released as part of DC Future State. Writer Gene Luen Yang and artist Ben Oliver have joined forces to tell yet another iteration of the Batman/Superman saga. In this future, one of Batman’s many enemies has somehow acquired a weapon even Superman (especially Superman) can’t beat. Spoiler alert: it’s Kryptonite. Specifically, a Kryptonite scalpel. This miniseries will have only two issues.

  • Back in the early days of the Magistrate’s occupation of Gotham City, Bruce Wayne found himself pushed to the edge like never before. So calling the Man of Steel in for backup makes sense, right? Wrong. Gotham’s sinister overlords have already sprung the ultimate trap on the Last Son of Krypton...and with Kryptonian power at your command, no one can stand in your way! Plus...where on Earth did Professor Pyg get a Kryptonite scalpel? Brace yourselves, because things are going to get gross in the caverns below Gotham...

DC Future State will take up much of the DC Comics publishing line from January to February 2021 as a two-month event. The release schedule includes monthly and twice-monthly oversize comic anthologies, as well as monthly miniseries and one-shots starring old and new heroes. Future State: Batman/Superman #1 will be available Jan. 26, 2021, along with other DC Future State comics.
