Warner Bros.' The Flash film is finally off to the races.

According to THR, the film has landed a release date of July 1, 2022. When it was first announced by Warner Bros. in 2014, it was expected to hit theaters in 2018.

Of course, release dates aren't the only problems that have plagued The Flash, as the film has gone through a murderer's row of creative minds. In 2015, Phil Lord and Chris Miller signed on to write the story treatment while Seth Grahame-Smith was tapped to write and direct. The latter departed in 2016 and was soon replaced by Rick Famuyiwa. However, he too left the project the following year due to creative differences. The studio then commissioned a script rewrite by Joby Harold and in 2018, John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein were announced as the new directors. Once again, though, there was a shakeup and in August of this year, Andy Muschietti was named the latest director to take a stab at The Flash. And that's not to mention reports that Miller himself was working on the script along with Grant Morrison.

The Flash is expected to star Ezra Miller as Barry Allen and Billy Crudup as Henry Allen. The film races into theaters July 1, 2022.
