DC's Shazam is one of the coolest and most imaginative characters in the comics' history, and getting his own standalone film brought him back into the spotlight, at least for a little while. Since he's such an original character, many fans wondered what a female version would look like (not counting Mary Marvel, of course).
Of course, cosplayers were happy to fill that void, offering their own takes on a genderbent version of Shazam; here of some the best. As always, if you like the cosplay, make sure to check out the ones who really did all the work - the cosplayers - at the links provided.
10 Toonibug
Cosplayer Toonibug puts together a simple Shazam cosplay that hits all the right notes. To be honest, it really does look like the character, from the lightning bolt emblem to the belt to even the boots.
Toonibug experiments with angles, poses, and expressions, and the ones she uses end up working really well. This is one cosplayer we can't wait to see more of.
9 Stolen Brush
Stolen Brush's Shazam cosplay starts off strong with an inspired, detailed outfit that already puts her ahead of the game in terms of raw style. She easily evokes images of Shazam, especially in the middle image, where she replicates his signature pose from the film's poster.
The lighting and colors also work well together and help give things a brighter aesthetic overall. All these great details definitely make it hard to ignore this high-quality cosplay.
8 Sammy Rubin
Cosplayer Sammy Rubin models Shazam alongside Supergirl cosplayer armoredheart, an insanely talented costume designer who made both outfits (and appears later on this list in her own right).
Rubin captures the idea of Shazam perfectly in just one brief photo shoot, casually acting tough while posing - as the superhero would. The camera work, done by thegeekstrong, is great as well, as it really showcases the talent both in front of and behind the camera.
7 Feenjoy
Cosplayer Feenjoy dazzles with a candy-apple red latex Shazam suit complete with cape. Her smoothly layered black hair matches the colors of her outfit perfectly, and expert photography gives her cosplay a glossy professionalism.
Excellent attention to detail showcases the extreme effort Feenjoy went to bring the various character's design aspects into a real-world setting.
6 Armored Heart Cosplay
As previously mentioned, Armored Heart Cosplay did design this truly amazing Shazam outfit, but clearly she's not single-skilled as she also does a great job of cosplaying in it. Her hair flows naturally and her various poses each take on a different layer of Shazam's personality.
From a technical viewpoint, the photography (again, done by thegeekstrong) is outstanding, as lighting and composition are perfected with an almost indulgent finesse.
5 Laura.kyonlee
Laura.kyonlee takes a few snaps with other legendary superheroes, but make no mistake, she's the star of this magnificent cosplay.
She masterfully draws forth her inner Shazam without seeming too pretentious or hackneyed, nailing the character's mannerisms with a graceful effervescence. All this without even mentioning the hair and outfit, which are both executed perfectly with an air of mastery.
4 Moon.Chi.Cosplay
Moon.Chi.Cosplay nails this succinct cosplay with a refined suaveness, as her exceptional costume design and exemplary cosplaying skills place her among the greats.
The photography (done by a professional from the San Diego Union-Tribune) is top-notch, and Moon.Chi's deft gaze transcends all barriers in communicating her overall disposition.
3 Cupcakesandcosplay
Artist Cupcakesandcosplay rocks this Shazam cosplay with a self-assured glance into the beyond and a knowing grin. Her outfit is well-designed, and the red and gold colors go together well. Her wavy hair has a luxurious sheen, and the background is a smartly chosen shade of blue to contrast with her hair, costume, and cape.
The photography, by thatguywiththebattie, gives the entire cosplay a polished look, as natural light is captured efficiently to full visual effect.
2 Karrigan Taylor
Karrigan Taylor recreates Shazam's snack food grab with effortless charm. Her costume is well-designed and works nicely with the red hues illuminating the dull background, giving the image an almost ethereal glow, and her lavish black hair compliments her square jaw.
The photography perfect captures the moment with an appealing dose of eclectic grandiose.
1 Alli_Cat22
Artist Alli_Cat22 has basically mastered all the elements that make a great cosplay, and it doesn't really get much better than that. Her costume is amazing, with the reflective gloss of the yellowish tints giving elements like her lightning bolt emblem a more realistic effect - while the bright composition of the outfit's primary color, a smooth reddish gradient, stans out against the background's contrasting greys. The boots especially are excellent, a design element many cosplayers seem to neglect or downright forget. The photographer, Eddie Snaps, uses techniques regarding lighting, composition, and use of space overall that are loose but calculated - to spectacular effect.
The cosplayer's hair and demeanor actually matches Shazam more completely than expected, and thus it's no surprise that her opulent reflective pose, her laid-back texting/blowing bubble gum pose, and, yes, even her smirking flex all work out pretty well.
