With the fallout from Henry Cavill's Superman departure sparking anger and sadness from all corners of the internet, DC fans keep stoking the proverbial flames by putting heat on the makers of The Flash to scrap the upcoming film.Taking to Twitter to voice their feelings, admirers of the DCU suggested The Flash should be canceled following the recent shakeup at DC Studios which includes the ouster of Cavill as Superman and reported scrapping of Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman 3. One fan suggested that releasing The Flash makes little sense given the DCU reboot under the studio's leaders, James Gunn and Peter Safran, while also calling for the Aquaman franchise to get dropped. Others hinted at the awkwardness of releasing the movie in the wake of Cavill's departure as well as claiming the movie faces doom because of the numerous delays and reshoots.RELATED: Henry Cavill Explains Abrupt Superman Departure

News about Cavill's Superman ouster came days after reports that DC were considering removing the British actor's cameo in The Flash. Executives have expressed concern that the Last Son of Krypton's appearance would cause considerable backlash among the fanbase considering the plan to shelve Man of Steel 2. The Enola Holmes 2 actor filmed the cameo this past September and was reportedly paid $250,000 for the appearance. DC has yet to confirm that the scene has been deleted, though other reports have suggested this has already happened.

Despite reports of the cameo's alleged removal and Gunn announcing a new Superman film featuring a different actor, Cavill has already found new work as he will star in and executive produce a series adaptation of the Warhammer 40,000 video game. Amazon Studios is developing the TV show while finalizing a deal to acquire the rights to the titular miniature wargame from Games Workshop.

The Many Issues Facing The Flash

Though anticipation for The Flash has been high, the movie has gone through its fair share of hiccups during production. Most of the issues center around Ezra Miller, who stars as the titular superhero in the DC film. Miller has been arrested for various incidents in recent months, including getting a citation for obstructing a highway and being charged with disorderly conduct this past spring in Hawaii. They have also faced felony burglary charges in recent months and were alleged to have groomed a minor, with protective orders granted against the actor last May and June. Miller returned to filming The Flash in October for reshoots after apologizing to Warner Bros. executives for their erratic behavior.

The Flash also stars Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck, who reprise their respective roles as Batman/Bruce Wayne. The film also features Sasha Calle (Supergirl), Kiersey Clemons (Iris West), Michael Shannon (General Zod) and Ron Livingston (Henry Allen). The film's storyline focuses on the titular superhero traveling back in time to prevent his mother's murder, unknowingly causing changes that spawn a new multiverse. Fans hoping for the film's cancellation may be disappointed considering a sequel is already in the works with Aquaman scribe David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick.

The Flash opens in theaters on June 16, 2023.
