The 2021 DC FanDome event saw three times as many viewers as last year's event, shattering the previous record with 66 million views. A virtual convention for all things DC, FanDome was streamed live on October 16 to much fanfare. This year's event offered new looks at highly anticipated properties such as The Batman, Black Adam, Batman: Caped Crusader and Gotham Knights.

"With triple the fan traffic of last year, DC FanDome 2021 exceeded all of our expectations," said Ann Sarnoff, Chair and CEO, WarnerMedia Studios and Networks, in a statement. "We continue to innovate across the company in service of our fans, and I cannot overstate the creativity and hard work that went into this highly curated, global digital event. We gave fans what they wanted -- the very best of all things DC -- and their engagement and response have been fantastic. We’re as excited as they are to deliver on all the great content DC FanDome highlighted."

FanDome launched in 2020 as a response to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. The event shares details and first looks at various upcoming DC properties, including video games, television shows, comic books and movies. With the inaugural presentation proving a success, DC continued the event in 2021. This year's showcase was made available in more than 220 countries and 12 languages worldwide.

In addition to the world premiere of the new trailer for The Batman, FanDome 2021 offered fans their first look at footage from Black Adam, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, Shazam! Fury of the Gods and Peacemaker. It also played host to a number of celebrity guests, including the likes of Jason Momoa, Dwayne Johnson, John Cena, Ezra Miller, James Gunn, Lynda Carter, Patty Jenkins, J.J. Abrams and Zachary Levi, as well as comic book creators Scott Snyder, Jim Lee and Todd McFarlane.

Aside from the more high-profile announcements and appearances, DC also showcased fan content like fan art and cosplay. Two contests were held during the event -- one for fan art and one asking fans to submit photos of their "DC Fandom," like DC-inspired cosplay, comic book and merch collections, and home decor. Of the submitted fan art, five artists were chosen as Selected Creators and received $2000, while the Selected Creators from the DC Fandom contest won $1400 each.

It's unclear whether DC will continue FanDome next year, but judging by this year's viewership, a 2022 DC FanDome could conceivably be in the cards. For those who missed it, this year's event can be found at DCFanDome.com or on the Warner Bros. Pictures YouTube channel.
