The following contains spoilers for Dark Crisis: The Dark Army #1, on sale now from DC Comics.

DC brings back a forgotten Earth in Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths, but nobody there is left alive.

To stop Pariah and his Dark Army, Robin Damian Wayne forms a small team in Dark Crisis: The Dark Army #1, including the heroes Sideways, Power Girl, Doctor Light and Red Canary. Damian's plan brings them to Earth-53, which was mainly populated by apes instead of humans and had its very own Justice League made up of primates. The world was restored by Pariah as he tried to resurrect the Infinite Multiverse, but because it is unstable, everyone who lived there is dead.

Before Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths officially launched, its story began with the death of the Justice League in Justice League #75. Pariah killed each of the team's heroes, as well as DC's Justice League Incarnate team, and used their deaths to fuel the restoration of the Infinite Multiverse lost during the original Crisis on Infinite Earths event. In reality, the main Justice League -- Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, the Flash, Martian Manhunter, Zatanna, Green Arrow and Black Canary -- were not dead, but trapped within dreamworlds, and breaking free of their captivity in Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths #5 threatened the stability of the worlds Pariah had brought back.

DC Gives Readers a Tour of Its Reborn Multiverse

The Infinite Multiverse is set to be explored in the one-shot Dark Crisis: Big Bang #1, which ties into the main event. The issue is set to feature the worlds seen in DC titles like Dark Knights of Steel, Batman '89, DC: Mech, Jurassic League and more. Dark Crisis: Big Bang is written by Mark Waid and illustrated by Dan Jurgens, but whether the worlds mapped out by the issue face the same fate as Earth-53 remains to be seen.

Dark Crisis: The Dark Army, on the other hand, not only brings back Earth-53, but gives Doctor Light a serious power upgrade and sees the return of Justice League Incarnate. While Pariah is in tune with the darkness of the Multiverse, Doctor Light is now the opposite, allowing her to break the bonds keeping the Justice League Incarnate and others under Pariah's control. Of course, DC's heroes are no longer fighting Pariah following his defeat in Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths #6, but must face an amped up Deathstroke after the Great Darkness' power transferred from Pariah into the supervillain.

Dark Crisis: The Dark Army #1 is written by Waid, Delilah S. Dawson and Dennis Culver, illustrated by Freddie E. Williams II and Jack Herbert, colored by Adriano Lucas and lettered by Troy Peteri. Main cover art for the issue is by Gleb Melnikov, with variant cover artwork contributed to by Taj Tenfold and Werther Dell'edera. The issue is now on sale from DC Comics.

As of writing, remaining issues set to release for Dark Crisis include Dark Crisis: War Zone (Dec. 6), Dark Crisis: Big Bang #1 (Dec. 13) and Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths #7 (Dec. 20).
