DC Comics announced DC Dual Force, a new digital trading card game that sees players collecting and battling iconic heroes like Batman and Superman.

Licensed by Warner Bros. Entertainment on behalf of DC Comics and developed by Cryptozoic Entertainment and YUKE'S, DC Dual Force is a "quick to learn and fun to master" collectible card game that will see players using a variety of Leader cards, Minion cards and Action cards to battle opponents. Leader cards take the form of the universe's most notable characters, like Harley Quinn and The Flash, while Minions are recognizable heroes that are, arguably, less known within mainstream audiences. Currently, the three revealed Minion cards are Dr. Fate, Gorilla Grodd and Punchline.

DC Dual Force will be free-to-play and is pulling on over 80 years of comic book history to craft unique single-player content. Every week players will be able to experience a new comic book story adapted to play out as a card-based battle. The game will also be consistently patched with new cards, with the promise that it will include "all Super Heroes and Super-Villains in future updates."

“We feel incredibly privileged to have such unique access to the DC Universe,” said Cory Jones, co-founder of Cryptozoic Entertainment. “As game makers and lifelong comics fans, this is really a dream come true. We are determined to deliver the definitive card game based on comic books.”

Cryptozoic Entertainment and YUKE'S have yet to specifically dissect how the game will play. Looking at some of the cards, it appears Minions have a health and damage stat, similar to Magic: The Gathering and Hearthstone.  The developers promise that DC Dual Force will feature a wide variety of strategies built upon character synergies. Entire decks can be built to take advantage of these unique abilities, leading to different archetypes and win conditions.

“We are honored to have an incredible partnership with Cryptozoic and cannot wait to see the DC Universe come to life as a digital collectible card game,” commented Yukinori Taniguchi, President and CEO of YUKE’S.

DC Dual Force doesn't yet have a release date but the teaser trailer confirms that it is "Coming soon in 2022." It's also currently unknown what platforms will support the game. More information will likely be revealed in the coming months.
