DC Drops Prices For A "Blackest" Friday

While the full market for downloadable comics is still working its way through an experimental phase on all fronts, the time honored tradition of holiday sales has hit DC Comics today in the digital arena. The publisher announced this morning via their blog The Source that for today only, they'll offer the entirety of their blockbuster "Blackest Night" crossover for sale in the DC Comics App at the reduced price of $0.99 (sales typically fall at $1.99 or $2.99).

Labeled the "Blackest Friday" sale, the 79 single issues that encompass all of "Blackest Night" crossover are now on sale online, but after today the prices will return to normal level for the books. DC's App for the iPad and iPhones has been open since June, and the publisher also launched a web-based app on their homepage earlier this month. Comic purchased by either method can be read across platforms.

"Blackest Night" joins a number of high profile and popular DC titles from "The Dark Knight Returns" to "The Sandman" on sale in the app, however this is the first time such a large amount of continuity-heavy crossover titles has been released in full on digital.
