DC Comics is putting the final pieces in place for the celebration of Detective Comics #1000. Over the past several months, news has trickled out in the form of announced creative teams and variant covers for the gala celebration.

Now, DC has kicked the celebration up a notch by releasing 33 variant covers for the extra-sized issue.

The impending release of Detective Comics #1000 has been hyped up for some time. This most recently included a special exhibit at SXSW, celebrating both the issue and Batman's 80th Anniversary.

With industry heavyweights like Doug Mahnke, Alex Ross, Jim Lee and Nicola Scott, the Detective Comics celebration is poised to be a massive affair. DC has pulled out all the stops for these mammoth #1000 celebrations, with last year’s Action Comics #1000 receiving a similar affair.

DC has revealed the many artists and where their covers could be picked up in a press release today.

The anticipation is building for the landmark 1,000th issue of DETECTIVE COMICS, the title that literally defines DC. DC and participating comic book shops will continue to build on the excitement with the release of exclusive retailer variant covers for this must-have issue. The 96-page, $9.99 issue is stacked with an all-star collection of top writers and artists from Batman’s history celebrating the Dark Knight in a collection of standalone short stories, plus the first chapter of “Medieval,” a new story arc by the team of writer Peter J. Tomasi and artist Doug Mahnke, introducing a new version of the Arkham Knight to DC Comics canon.

To celebrate this historic release, some of the hottest artists in comics are honoring Batman and DETECTIVE COMICS by designing and illustrating exclusive variant covers for this milestone issue, available at select retailers while supplies last. These unique covers will feature beautifully rendered illustrations from artists such as Jim Lee, Dan Jurgens, Riccardo Federici, Tony S. Daniel, Brian Bolland and more.

Here’s the list of participating retailers and artists providing exclusive covers. Make sure to contact them to see what they have in stock!

At an extra-sized 96-pages, Detective Comics #1000 isn’t just a celebration of where the Dark Knight has been -- the book also promises to set up the future of Batman stories, including the mainstream DC debut of the Arkham Knight. Though the character appeared in the video game Batman: Arkham Knight and related comic book stories, this will be the first appearance of the character outside of tie-in merchandise.

Detective Comics #1000 is scheduled for release March 27.
