While Batman is the most iconic superhero to defend Gotham City, the Caped Crusader is far from the only crimefighter defending the bustling metropolis, with Grant Morrison and Chris Burnham introducing a new vigilante in Detective Comics #1027.

DC released a sneak peek at Morrison and Burnham's short story from the oversized anniversary special issue, titled "Detective 26." The story is set in a 1930s vision of Gotham, where a new gun-toting hero known as the Silver Ghost, inspired by the first wave of pulp heroes, decides to step up and defend his city. The preview, written by Morrison, drawn by Burnham, colored by Nathan Fairbairn and lettered by Steve Wands, is below.

Morrison and Burnham's short story is just one of the all-star creative teams celebrating one thousand issues of Detective Comics since Batman's debut in 1939's Detective Comics #27 by Bob Kane and Bill Finger.
