As the countdown to Dark Nights: Death Metal continues, DC has released a variant cover for Issue #1 featuring David Finch and Steve Firchow's depiction of the Trinity's new look.

The cover, tweeted out by DC, embraces the weird, wild world that the creative team of Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo are aiming for: Wonder Woman, the newfound Queen of Hell, carries a chainsaw that is powered by her Lasso of Truth; Superman, who has been trapped in the sun, sports a stony arm, has grown out his hair and wrapped strips of his cape around his fist; and Batman has traded his cape for a spike-studded trenchcoat and scythe as he straddles a literal Batcycle.

Death Metal serves as the grand culmination of a story that Snyder and Capullo have been working on since their run on Batman began in 2011. The series will also touch on plot points from Snyder's Justice League run and the Year of the Villain: Hell Arisen miniseries.

Dark Nights: Death Metal #1, by Scott Snyder, Greg Capullo, Jonathan Glapion and FCO, goes on sale May 13 from DC. Issues #2-3 will ship in June and July, respectively, and then Issues #4-6 will ship in September, October and November, respectively
