The Crime Syndicate will soon receive their own ongoing series, and their version of Green Lantern Hal Jordan is radically different from the one fans have known.

This version of Jordan is a Black man who goes by the moniker of Emerald Knight. The Emerald Knight is described as "The Broken Moral Compass" and has been subjugated by his power ring. "He couldn't trust anyone else to wield it," the official character synopsis for Emerald Knight reads. "He would be the voice of reason if he could muster the courage to speak up…"

"My guiding light on this is really two-fold: keep them villains and write these characters as independent of their counterparts on Earth-0," writer Andy Schmidt said in an interview. "I'm not writing evil Batman, I'm writing Owlman. I'm not writing dark Wonder Woman, I'm writing Super Woman, and so on…" He also said that his take on the Syndicate will draw on their appearance in the first issue of Crisis on Infinite Earths and the JLA: Earth-2 graphic novel by Grant Morrison and Frank Quietly.

Spinning out of the events of Dark Nights: Death Metal, the Crime Syndicate miniseries will focus on the eponymous team and their iron rule of Earth-3. Schmidt will be joined by Kieran McKeown and Bryan Hitch, with Hitch illustrating the origin story of Ultraman.

Crime Syndicate #1 goes on sale on Mar. 2, 2021 from DC.
