DC doesn't exactly have the same success that Marvel has when it comes to movies. The weird thing is that DC does have a lot of success in the animated market, where they've been known to adapt their best stories into epic animated movies. DC has some amazing stories under its belt, so there's a wealth of stories that DC could adapt to live-action movies like it has for its animated movies.

While there are a lot of great stories out there to adapt, there are some comics that didn't exactly inure themselves to fans that would still make great adaptations, creating some memorable movies that could compete with Marvel.

10 Doomsday Clock Is Full Of Cool Ideas & Great Action Scenes

Doomsday Clock Superman

Doomsday Clock has a checkered legacy among DC fans. The book's delays kept it from mattering nearly as much as it might have otherwise, and Alan Moore's out-and-out hatred for any sequel to Watchmen made a lot of people rather unhappy with it. The story does have a lot of interesting ideas and some amazing action scenes that would lend themselves well to film.

Movie fans wouldn't care nearly as much about Moore's feeling towards the matter and would just see the story for what it is. It would deliver on the spectacle a movie needs and introduce some ideas to the DCEU that could be played with for years.

9 The Time Has Come For A Convergence Movie

Alternate realities in DC Convergence

The New 52 had no luck when it comes to event books and Convergence was probably the worst one of the entire lot. While its tie-ins were rather good, the main book was a mess that few fans enjoyed. With the MCU's success with multiverse stories like Loki and What If...?, a Convergence movie could be just what the doctor ordered to compete.

DC has always been a master of the multiverse, so a story that focuses on that would be great for a movie. Convergence has all of that and could show general audiences the breadth of the DC Multiverse.

8  The Dark Knight Strikes Again Has A Lot Going For It That Would Make A Great Movie

Batman in The Dark Knight Strikes Again Comic

The Dark Knight Returns is known as one of the greatest Batman stories of all time. Its sequel, The Dark Knight Strikes Again, has a much lesser reputation but it's better than it gets credit for in a lot of ways. It broadens out into the greater DC Universe, an approach that could do nicely for a movie.

The story has the big spectacle and bombast needed to catch attention in the multiplex and would give readers a glimpse at how the future versions of DC's heroes, many broken by time and their experiences, deal with an old threat.

7 Superman At World's End Has The Right Stuff For A Movie

Superman Worlds end (2)

Superman At World's End is one of DC's least-loved Elseworlds comics but that doesn't mean that moviegoers wouldn't get into it. Set in a dystopian future where Superman is all but powerless and pitted against twin clones of Hitler, the story has all of the right types of bombast that movie audiences go for. It has all the subtlety of a sledgehammer, but that's okay with a movie.

While the comic can be vaguely ridiculous, that's actually kind of normal for superhero movies. The MCU made its bones off movies that never heard of subtlety and embraced spectacle, which is exactly the kind of thing that would work wonders in a Superman At World's End movie.

6 Justice League: The Darkseid War Put The Justice League In A Battle Between Darkseid & The Anti-Monitor

Justice League in Darkseid War.

Justice League: The Darkseid War has a lot of problems. Hyped up to be a battle between Darkseid and the Anti-Monitor, it mostly ended up focusing on Grail's machinations to get revenge on Darkseid for his treatment of her mother and focused very little on the actual battle of the titans it was sold as. While this might not seem great for a movie, it could still work.

A Darkseid War movie could still hit the same story beats but because fans haven't been hyped on a massive battle between Darkseid and the Anti-Monitor, the bait and switch won't seem so egregious.

5 Batman: I Am Gotham Would Show A More Supeheroic Side Of Batman

BEST BATMAN - I Am Gotham

Tom King has told some amazing stories in his comic writing career but most fans were kind of lukewarm on a lot of his Batman run. That includes the opening story, Batman: I Am Gotham. The story sees Batman take two new superheroes, Gotham and Gotham Girl, under his wing and plays up the superhero aspects of Batman more.

The story was a bit of a departure for comics fans when it came out and even feels tonally different from what King did after. As a standalone superhero movie, though, it would work much better and give moviegoers a glimpse of a Batman they rarely see, Batman the superhero.

4 Justice League: The Extinction Machines Showcases What The Justice League Does Best

EXTINCTION MACHINES justice league

While most DC Rebirth titles are looked at as returns to form for the DC Universe, Justice League doesn't have that reputation. Writer Bryan Hitch eschewed the traditional superhero dynamics of past versions of the book to have the Justice League battle against all manner of world-destroying aliens and disasters. Fans weren't super into this direction and it started in the first story.

The Extinction Machines didn't resonate with comic fans too much but would make a great movie. It captures the grandeur of the Justice League and while it doesn't have a huge villain, it doesn't really need one, and would make for a cool superhero disaster movie.

3 Heroes In Crisis Would Make For An Interesting Superhero Murder Mystery

Heroes in Crisis Justice League Harley Quinn Booster Gold

Superhero murder mysteries are fairly common in comics but not so much in superhero movies. A way to change that would be to adapt Heroes In Crisis. The comic has its detractors but it's not as bad as some people think and would actually make for a pretty good movie.

To begin with, Harley Quinn is one of the main characters of the book, and any chance to get to see Margot Robbie as Harley is one that should be taken. The story deals with the mental issues of superheroes and while some things would certainly have to be tweaked to make the story work for a movie, it's still a good enough premise for a great movie.

2 Amazons Attack! Is Not A Good Comic But Could Make For A Good Movie

Amazons Attack Cropped

Amazons Attack! is considered one of the worst DC events of the 21st century but that doesn't mean it wouldn't make a good movie. Pitting the Amazons against the US military and the superheroes to free Wonder Woman from government custody, the story went nowhere in the comics but it's just crazy enough to make a cool movie.

Movie fans have gotten to see the Amazons in battle and know what kind of impressive force they can be. Expanding on that and pitting them against the superheroes and the government would make for an exciting popcorn movie that fans would love.

1 Final Crisis Is Complicated But Rewarding

Final-Crisis-Close Up Of Darkseid's Face

Final Crisis is Grant Morrison's DC magnum opus and as such, is not an easy narrative. It goes way beyond a traditional superhero tale, acting as a meta-story that incorporates themes from throughout Morrison's work and DC history into a massive epic. While it's almost certainly too complicated for fans of superhero movies, it still could work as a superhero film.

There are so many layers to Final Crisis and one can concentrate on one part of it, like the battle against Darkseid, and make an amazing movie, one that would change the way fans look at superhero films forever.
