At the end of the first Avengers movie, Thanos made a cameo, his distinctive chin appearing as it was revealed to audiences that he was the mastermind controlling the Chitauri fleet that invaded Earth. When audiences saw this menacing villain, most responded with the same thought: who's that? Of course, long-time Marvel fans knew what most audiences across the globe now know: that Thanos is a truly terrifying villain.

His indomitable will and incredible strength are impressive, but when armed with the Infinity Gauntlet--arguably the most powerful weapon in the Marvel Universe--he is nigh unstoppable. Of course, there are other universes with their own powerful objects. These are ten weapons in the DC Universe capable of standing up to Thanos wielding the Infinity Gauntlet.

10 Helmet of Fate

The Helmet of Fate is one of the most powerful magical items in the DC Universe. It is worn by Doctor Fate, a name given to whichever human host has donned the armored helm and bonded with the Nabu, the Lord of Order who is anchored to physical reality through this ancient armored headpiece.

Nabu created three powerful magic objects, the other two being the Amulet of Anubis and Cloak of Destiny, which when worn with the Helmet of Fate, grant immense power to their bearer. In the guise of Doctor Fate, a person can open portals between reality, create warding spells, and use sorcery to instill their will upon reality.

9 Worlogog

The Worlogog is probably best known for its association with the character Hourman. During the course of Scott Snyder's run on Justice League, this powerful item was described as being made from the very physical substance used to create the DC Multiverse, but even that feels like it is depowering the Worlogog from its earlier portrayals.

This device was used by the New Gods and can bend time and space (with a bit more emphasis on the time part). It can also bestow and augment consciousness, and unlike the Infinity Gauntlet, it can operate in different dimensions, giving it an edge over Thanos.

8 Omega Beams

Darkseid's eyes smolder with the Omega Effect in DC Comics

Darkseid is one of the New Gods and the malevolent overlord of the planet Apokolips. Of all the weapons at his disposal, none is deadlier than his Omega Beams, cruel lasers he can shoot from his eyes which always hit their target, inflicting an agonizing demise.

When describing the ultimate unstoppable power of a supernatural attack, the novelist Junot Diaz invoked the power of Darkseid's Omega Beams in the opening to his Pulitzer Award-winning novel The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao. These optic blasts are feared across universes. They would fry Thanos on the spot. Then an even more terrifying eventuality would emerge – Darkseid wielding the Infinity Gauntlet.

7 Anti-Life Equation

Darkseid's strongest weapon may be his Omega Beams, but the thing he wants more than anything is the Anti-Life Equation. There have been several different interpretations of Anti-Life, depending on who is writing a given story.

In some versions, it is merely death. In other versions, it robs victims of free will. In Grant Morrison's Seven Soldiers, there is an actual mathematical equation. Whatever the way it is written, if Darkseid covets it, then it must be powerful, evil, and intimidating.

6 Dreamstone

Dream of the Endless is one of the Gods Above the Gods. His titles include the Lord Shaper, the Prince of Stories, and the King of the Dreaming. Gods and devils marvel at his power and respect his counsel.

Among the most powerful items created by Dream (who, it should be noted, literally created his own plane of existence), is a ruby known as the Dreamstone. It can inflict nightmares upon people, forcing them to act out their most horrific fears. For Thanos, a man who has defined his life by pursuing his dream, this would be his unmaking.

5 Dream's Helm

Another object that is powerful beyond belief is Dream's Helm, which (like the Dreamstone) is a symbol of his office. It is made of dream stuff, pure imagination, and magic that is given form through intent. It was made from the skull of one of Dream's enemies.

While this seems to be more a protective item than a weapon, Dream wears it to prepare for battle. Its full potential might only be something Dream himself can use, but it seems only fitting that the Dream King should bring Thanos's nightmarish ambitions to an end.

4 White Lantern Ring

Of all the power rings used by the various lantern corps, none is more powerful than the White Lantern ring. These combine the seven colors of the emotional spectrum, so someone must be able to tap into each of these emotions to become a White Lantern.

In truth, it is likely any of the power rings in DC would work to defeat Thanos, so long as the ringbearer was up to the task. However, the White Lantern rings have the power of life itself within them and would illuminate every one of Thanos's weaknesses.

3 Tenth Metal

Tenth Metal, also known as Element X, is the stuff of pure imagination. It first appeared in Jack Kirby's work on New Gods and made a return in a big way during the events Dark Nights: Metal. There are a handful of powerful metals in the DC Multiverse and this is the most potent of all of them.

Element X can alter reality on a massive scale, physically manifesting someone's desires. It also grants precognitive abilities, allowing one to see and shape the future. Frankly, it is hard to think of a reason that a gauntlet made from Tenth Metal isn't preferable to having the Infinity Gauntlet.

2 Fahren Knife

A Fahren-Knife is made from the body of a dead god, almost always one of the New Gods. While there are a number of weapons capable of killing a god, a Fahren-Knife is the weapon of choice for the elite leaders of the New Gods to use in their wars with each other. To date, only two Fahren-Knives are known to exist.

To stab someone with a Fahren-Knife will burn them inside their body as the energy fires spread through their body. The blades of these knives do not merely cut and burn, but to quote the sadistic god Desaad, penetrate a target "dimensionally." It's hard to tell whether this means it cuts through dimensions to hurt someone, cuts them out of the dimension in which they exist, or does something else entirely. However, such a weapon is sure to send Thanos to reunite with Death.

1 Mister Miracle's Stroller Gun

This item does not appear to have a technical name in the comics yet. It appeared in the final issue of Mitch Gerads and Tom King's run of Mister Miracle. The weapon is made from the energies of the Miracle Machine, composed of the only things too dangerous for him to survive. It was then hidden in his child's stroller, smuggled into Darkseid's throne room, and used to assassinate the lord of Apokolips.

If it can kill Darkseid, then it can kill Thanos. Of course, the Infinity Gauntlet only works in the origin in which it was made, so if Thanos enters the DC Universe with the gauntlet, it is basically the same as entering it without the gauntlet except he has a shiny glove to show off. That said, the weapons on this list are all so powerful they could stand against Thanos with the Infinity Gauntlet anywhere in the multiverse.
