Some heroes and villains go together like chalk and cheese; such as Batman and Joker, Superman and Lex Luthor, or Green Lantern and Sinestro. However, some DC villains seem to be greatly outmatched in terms of their 'chosen' hero - whether it be due to their superpowers or cerebral power, some villains really picked the wrong DC hero to grapple with.

This article will take a deep dive into the DC Universe, exploring the Golden Age, Silver Age, and the Modern Age to highlight those villains that are severely outmatched in terms of power and ability with their chosen DC hero.

10 Toyman's Gadgetry Isn't Enough For Superman

Toyman

Across the vast history of the DC Universe and continuities, there have been three different 'Toymen' however, the most well-known incarnation of the Toyman is Winslow Percival Schott. The central gimmick of this character is, obviously, toy-based. The villain uses toy-based gadgetry and schemes in the hope of bringing down Superman.

As Toyman is a non-superpowered villain who has chosen the Man of Steel as his primary adversary, it is quite clear as to why Toyman is so severely outmatched in terms of power and ability.

9 Even Captain Cold's Freeze Weapon Isn't Fast Enough For The Flash

Captain Cold Gun

Another character with a long-running history in the DC Universe, Captain Cold is a cold-themed villain who generally clashes swords with Central City's resident speedster, the Flash.

While the character can be a handful for several heroes, on paper, the Flash severely outmatches Captain Cold (even with the Captain's signature freeze weapon).

8 The Scarlet Speedster Can Outrun A Boomerang

The second Captain to appear on this list, Captain Boomerang is often seen as a bit of a joke character by those not overly familiar with the DC Universe. While his character has been somewhat purged of this 'joke character' status thanks to the Suicide Squad, there's no denying that he is severely outmatched by the Flash.

Sure, Captain Boomerang is a skilled fighter and 'boomerang thrower', the Flash's super-speed greatly surpasses the ability of Captain Boomerang.

7 Pranking Superman Isn't Going To End Well For Prankster

The Superman villain known as the Prankster bursting out of a Superman poster.

Dating all the way back to the Golden Age of Comics, the Prankster is a superman villain who built his entire crime persona around pranking the Man of Steel. In recent comics, the Prankster was 'modernized' and started using high-tech gadgetry in his schemes.

Despite his recent high-tech upgrades, the Prankster has still made the unfortunate mistake of choosing Superman to be his main foil.

6 Metropolis Isn't A Good Place For Thieves

Magpie New Crop

The Magpie is a Superman villain who is, essentially, a Catwoman-style villain. The Magpie is a skilled jewel thief who bases her thefts on bird-based jewels, hence her name - the Magpie.

While there is no denying that the Magpie is a skilled thief and combatant, there's also no denying that she shouldn't be plying her trade in Metropolis. Superman is more than capable of stopping her schemes without a sweat.

5 Zsasz May Be Scary, But Batman Is Scarier

Victor Zsasz stares with blood on the wall in DC Comics

Victor Zsasz is one of the most intimidating and unnerving Batman villains. While some Batman villains, such as Joker and Riddler, are more cartoonish in nature, Zsasz is grounded in our own world; his gruesome murders and method of 'tallying' his kill count on his body is certainly disturbing.

While Zsasz is a disturbing and intimidating character for the average person, for Batman, Zsasz is rarely a match. While his grounding in the 'real world' leans into more gruesome stories, it also makes Zsasz barely a physical match for the Dark Knight.

4 A Mouse Man Can't Stand Up Against A Wonder Woman

DC Wonder Woman Mouse Man Cropped

The Golden Age of comic books was a brilliant time, not only did it give the world iconic characters that would continue to entertain people around the world decades later, but the Golden Age also gave birth to some weird and downright ridiculous characters - Mouse Man being one of them.

After a chemical accident, the Mouse Man was permanently reduced to around six inches tall and started using his small stature to control mice and break laws. If this wasn't bizarre enough, he also chose Golden Age Wonder Woman to be his adversary - in reality, she could probably kick the little guy into orbit.

3 Cutlass Charlie Really Shouldn't Mess With The King Of The Seven Seas

Cutlass Charlie - Aquaman

Cutlass Charlie made his first and only appearance in Justice League of America #61, but the sheer nature of the gulf in ability between himself and Aquaman gives him a spot on this list.

Cutlass Charlie's central gimmick is that he is, essentially, a pirate. The character has a sword and looks like a pirate pulled from a children's book on pirates. This is all we know about the character, aside from a hint of a backstory between himself and Aquaman. It's clear, however, that the King of the Seven Seas wouldn't struggle with Cutlass Charlie.

2 Two-Face Iconic, But A Former DA Isn't A Challenge For The Dark Knight

Harvey Dent Two-Face Year One

Perhaps the most controversial addition to this list, Harvey Dent's Two-Face is one of the most interesting and loved Batman villains. The District Attorney turned villain is a tragic tale that shows just how easily a good character can turn evil.

However, in terms of physical challenge, Two-Face shouldn't be much of a problem for the Dark Knight at all. Even ignoring Two Face's lack of martial training, he is severely limited by the fact he needs to flip a coin to make decisions.

1 Ten Eyed Man Is A Good Fighter, But Batman Is Better

Ten-Eyed man holding out his hands

Another Batman villain, Ten-Eyed Man is a Vietnam veteran who lost his eyesight in a terrible factory explosion. However, a brilliant eye surgeon was able to give him his eyesight back, but only by connecting his visual nerves to the ends of his fingers - hence, Ten-Eyed Man.

While his army experience makes Ten-Eyed Man better than the average criminal in terms of hand-to-hand ability, there's no denying that his gimmick doesn't help him fight against the Caped Crusader.
