COMIC LEGEND:

DC had a contest that accidentally had more answers than they intended!

STATUS:

True

In 1964, DC Comics had a fun contest in Superman #169 in the following story by Jerry Siegel and Al Plastino...

The trick in the story is to find the appearance of the letters D and C in the story. They should each appear just once.

I'll split this legend into two pages so you won't be spoiled by the answer. Whenever you find the letters or you give up on finding them, just go to the next page!

Cleverly, the answer is actually hidden in the "Continued on the next page" notation...

Sneaky, right?

However, the more amusing thing is that they goofed and included two extra D's in this panel!

Here are the results of the contest in Superman #174...

Later, when the story was reprinted in Superman #202, some helpful proofreader also added in "Daily" to the last panel on this page...

Too funny!

OK, that's it for this week!

Thanks to the Grand Comics Database for this week's covers! And thanks to Brandon Hanvey for the Comic Book Legends Revealed logo, which I don't even actually use on the CBR editions of this column, but I do use them when I collect them all on legendsrevealed.com!
