For one reason or another, characters are developed and tossed aside through the artistic process of storytelling and world creation. Although most writers like to salvage the characters they create, some are too far gone to make a reappearance in any reboots.

The '90s housed several of these characters in DC comics. They could not recreate a justifiable story arc for some of the heroes written by talented authors. Whether it's confusing backstories or a mismatch between newly created DC heroes, these are some of the '90s heroes that did not make it as far as 2020.

11 Superboy

First on the list is Superboy, appearing in 1993 as Connor Kent. Connor's character had an overly ambitious and convoluted backstory that confused most readers. As a result, DC did not keep the character up to date and relevant going into the new century.

That overly complicated backstory may have killed this character. Some fans think he's a robot, some think he's Clark Kent's son. However, when questions like these arise, readers tend to get lost.

10 Monarch

monarch

Monarch is a compilation of three DC villains: Hank Hall, Nathaniel Adam, and Captain Atom. Having three separate superheroes gone villain combined into one was extremely confusing for readers and the DC comic writers decided that it wasn't feasible to try to bring Monarch into any new DC universe.

Although the character is considered to be one of the best and most complex ever written into the comics, having the threesome good guy/bad guy cluster was too complicated to try to fit into any new story arcs. In Monarch's eyes, at least in one version, he believed he was a hero.

9 Doctor Fate

Kent Nelson (Doctor Fate) is a 90's superhero known for his heroics alongside his wife, Inza. He has a complicated backstory due to the character's defining quality that he's a succession of sorcerer's. The variety of different sorcerers within one character was enough of a complicated origin to have readers questioning what was really going on.

However, the character is not fully forgotten because of his impact in creating the Justice Society of America. Although mentioned and remembered, he has not made a modern appearance.

8 Chronos

David Clinton, or Chronos, is a member of the Anti-Justice league whose arch-nemesis is The Atom. He is known for his time traveling abilities and as a result, is known to be several representations of himself from different time periods and different dimensions.

The lack of stability centering around who Chronos really was became enough for DC comic and film writers to toss the character aside from any current DC representation.

7 Darkstars

The Darkstars are more of a team of isolationist people run by the Controllers. Fans have naturally forgotten about The Darkstars because it was never really clear who impacted this secret team, what their purpose was in the galaxy, and why they were driven to save what they thought the universe was comprised of.

Although in-depth and a phenomenal creation, this '90s team may be better left out for the new decade's world of DC heroes and villains.

6 Alpha Centurion

Forgotten DC 90s Alpha Centurion

This dated hero was a member of the Roman society in which he gained his powers through extensive ancient alien training. Alpha Centurion may have been kept relevant if not for such a dated and precise story arc that pertained to '90s pop culture influences.

Of course, there are still alien references and ancient roman movies that have come out recently but mixing the two sounds a little dated.

5 A.R.G.U.S.

A.R.G.U.S. is an old representation of the Justice League that is known to have worked with the US government to stop evil forces. In one way or another, each of the A.R.G.U.S. characters was not particularly loved by the vast majority of comic book readers and as a result fell behind greatly to the Justice League.

As the Justice League has gained much modern popularity, A.R.G.U.S. sort of fell behind in the race.

4 Adam Cray

Forgotten DC 90s Adam Cray

Adam Cray is one of the most mysterious and quiet superheroes that was known to be a part of the Suicide Squad. However, was his character too quiet? The immediate answer would be yes. Although he was considered to be in the Suicide Squad, not a single member knew about it and as a result, his character slowly dissolved.

The characterization of Adam Cray was on point, but it became too much when readers didn't know what his direct involvement was.

3 The Heckler

Forgotten DC 90s Heckler

The Heckler was a part of his own comic series called "The Heckler #1-6." The Heckler was a superhero that had the abilities to super-annoy people. Young kids in the '90s enjoyed The Heckler because as they grew, they could relate to the character through teenage angst.

However, there's nothing super powerful or significant about him so it only makes sense that he was forgotten.

2 General Glory

General Glory in action

Joseph Jones, or General Glory, is a '90s DC hero that resembles Captain America in almost every way. He was a general in World War II that was granted special abilities to fight supernatural forces of evil.

Whether this was already exhausted greatly by the Marvel comics through Captain America, or whether the character was underdeveloped, General Glory has not made a modern appearance.

1 Bloodwynd

Bloodwynd

Bloodwynd is a complicated villain who was enslaved and then turned into a soul-capturing evil entity. Through the force of the Blood Gem, Bloodwynd was able to travel through dimensions and cause havoc.

However, the character's backstory is extremely complicated which resulted in not as big of a popularity amongst readers/viewers. Also, the highly controversial, racially viewed character did not bode well with fans and new writers for DC. However, one alternate version of the character was actually something of a hero on Earth.
