When the planet Krypton exploded, it was feared the entire Kryptonian society would be destroyed. When Kal-El first arrived on Earth, it seemed he was the only Kryptonian to survive, and the amazing powers he evidenced after exposure to Earth's yellow sun set him apart as a being of unprecedented strength. He stood alone as Superman.

However, over the years a number of other Kryptonians have arrived on Earth, developing powers that rival Superman's. But who is truly the strongest Kryptonian? Check out this ranking to see.

10 Jor-El

Mr. Oz/Jor-El

Jor-El is Superman's father. Although he originally sent his son on alone, it is later revealed that he actually survived and came to Earth as well. Psychologically damaged, Jor-El isn't ready to be a hero, and although he has the standard powers of any Kryptonian, he doesn't truly know how to use them.

After coming to Earth, Jor-El also witnessed the atrocities of war on our world, he decided to become Mister Oz and try to manipulate events rather than engage in them.

9 Cyborg Superman

There are two different versions of Cyborg Superman. One is the human Hank Henshaw who was exposed to Superman's birthing matrix, gaining some Kryptonian powers. However, the more powerful form of Cyborg Superman is Zor El, Supergirl's father, who was reconfigured by Brainiac to be even more powerful.

However, Brainiac didn't count on the extent to which Kryptonian strength would grow, and his modifications ultimately make him weaker than pure Kryptonians.

8 Power Girl

Power Girl - JSA

Power Girl aka Karen Starr is Kara Zor-El from the dimension of Earth 2. Since the physics of her home dimension are different, she is weaker than the Kryptonians of this dimension. In addition, she feels a sense of being less than her cousin and even the version of herself from this dimension. This causes a crisis of confidence that can further blunt her power.

When fighting, she exhibits a brashness that can sometimes serve her well but can also undermine her effectiveness. However, she has the compensating strength that kryptonite from this universe (usually) doesn't affect her.

7 Faora / Ursa

Faora in front of the Phantom Zone portal

Faora is a Kryptonian criminal imprisoned in the Phantom Zone, the prison that survived the planet's destruction. In the 1980 movie Superman II, she was known as Ursa, and she has been known by both names since.

She is often shown to have similar strength to Superman but using her skill as a fighter to defeat him in combat. However, when put to the test, she is not as strong as Superman or Zod. She is often represented as Zod's lover, and sometimes the only person he cares enough about to put his plans of conquest on hold for.

6  Zod

Zod Commands His Enemies To Kneel Before Him

Zod is a Kryptonian criminal, a fascist general who sought to overthrow the democratic government of Krypton. He was defeated and imprisoned in the Phantom Zone, sometimes with a few allies, other times with his entire cadre of loyalists. His devious mind, military training, and allies make him a deadly opponent, but he is not usually shown to be as strong as Superman.

The usual explanation is that he hasn't had as much time to absorb solar radiation as Superman, which means he doesn't have the same reserve of strength.

5 Superboy-Prime

2. Superboy Prime posing menacingly

Like Power Girl, Superboy-Prime comes from another dimension, but one where there were no actual superheroes. He grew up reading Superman comics and idolized his hero. When he discovered that he had powers like the comic book hero, he was happy to use them for good.

He allied with heroes from other dimensions to help defeat the Anti-Monitor. However, in Infinite Crisis, he returned in order to take over the role of Superboy in the surviving universe, and then to try to restore his own universe. It ultimately takes the strength of two Supermen to defeat him.

4 Supergirl

Like Superman, Kara Zor-El AKA Supergirl was sent from Krypton to Earth on purpose. She was older when sent and was supposed to arrive before Kal El to help him, but her spacecraft was waylaid. There is considerable controversy over whether Supergirl is stronger than Superman or not.

Usually, the consensus is that Superman is stronger, but that Supergirl has more potential, and will become stronger. In conflicts with her cousin, Supergirl often prevails (as on the Supergirl TV show) because he tends to hold back on his strength, even when he doesn't think he is.

3 Doomsday

Doomsday is a product of Kryptonian technology, a genetically engineered monster built from the remains of an ancient being. Sometimes known as "The Ultimate," it was not created once, but many times in numerous versions as it was released into a dangerous environment as a baby.

Each time it failed to survive, it was made again, slightly stronger. After decades of refinement, it killed its creator and escaped Krypton. It destroyed several worlds before coming to Earth and facing off against Superman. The two Kryptonians engaged in a titanic battle that killed both combatants.

2 Superman

Superman meets Dr Manhattan

Kal-El was the first Kryptonian to arrive on Earth, and he has demonstrated his strength time and again against various Kryptonian opponents. In addition to having more time to absorb solar radiation and grow stronger, he has spent the most time with his superpowers, learning to control them precisely.

He has faced many foes and improved his skill with each challenge. He also has access to the database of Kryptonian knowledge, which helps him find technological solutions when his strength is not sufficient. However, his powers also wax and wane depending on the events of different comic book arcs.

1  H'El

Ranking any Kryptonian above Superman is controversial, but there is good reason to put H'El at the top. H'El was a space explorer dispatched by Jor-El and Lara, Kal-El's parents. Before deciding to send their son to the stars, they first sent H'El in a prototype ship to safeguard the compendium of Krypton's history and knowledge. In the prototype ship, the journey was difficult, and H'El arrived decades after Kal-El.

Over the journey, he has absorbed numerous types of radiation that make him stronger. He tries to recruit Kal-El into a quest of saving Krypton, but his willingness to sacrifice Earth puts him at odds with Superman. H'El shows his raw strength when Supergirl flies at him full strength and bounces off, injuring her hands without disturbing him. In addition, he has psychic abilities that make him an even more formidable foe.
