Volumes One & Two

Imperiex is coming…and he will not be denied!

The ultimate conquering force has been unleashed upon the universe and is heading toward Earth, leaving a path of devastation in its wake. The DC Universe is shaken to its core, with one hero - Superman - pushed to his limit as Earth becomes embroiled in a galactic war against a seemingly unstoppable enemy. And another hero, Aquaman, meets a heroic demise…

Last summer's history-making crossover event "Our Worlds At War" was so epic, so intense, that it takes two jam-packed volumes to collect it all! SUPERMAN: OUR WORLDS AT WAR Volume One and Volume Two each weigh in at 264 pages and arrive (within two weeks of each other) this August.

OUR WORLDS AT WAR features an all-star lineup of some of the industry's hottest creators, including writers Jeph Loeb, Joe Casey, Mark Schultz, Joe Kelly, Phil Jimenez, Peter David, and Todd Dezago. Artists include Ed McGuinness, Mike Wieringo, Doug Mahnke, Kano, Phil Jimenez, Ron Garney, Leonard Kirk, Todd Nauck, Carlo Barbieri, Pascual Ferry, Mark Buckingham, Bill Sienkiewicz, Yvel Guichet, Duncan Rouleau, and many more! (Consult the listings for exact breakdowns of creators in each volume).

Volume One finds Imperiex making its first strike, as Superman and the mightiest heroes of the DC Universe are overwhelmed by a planet ravaged with fire and destruction. With the fate of the world at stake, the Man of Steel is left no choice but to forge shaky alliances with President Luthor, Darkseid, Mongul, and other dubious allies. Now, with his makeshift army of heroes and villains, Superman wages war against a foe determined to destroy the universe and remake it in its own image. Plus, the death of a JLA member! This volume reprints SUPERMAN #171-172, ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN #593-594, SUPERMAN: THE MAN OF STEEL #115-116, ACTION COMICS #780-781, SUPERGIRL #59, and JLA: OUR WORLDS AT WAR #1.

Volume Two shows the war going badly for Superman and his allies. Already the casualties are mounting, with some of DC's greatest heroes having fallen or gone missing in battle. As the heroes of the world attempt to turn the tide to their favor, Brainiac 13 secretly enters the war seeking to harness the power of Imperiex to use for his own ends. This volume reprints SUPERMAN #173, ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN #595, SUPERMAN: THE MAN OF STEEL #117, ACTION COMICS #782, WONDER WOMAN #172-173, YOUNG JUSTICE #36, IMPULSE #77, SUPERBOY #91, and WORLD'S FINEST: OUR WORLDS AT WAR #1.

Some of the events found in these volumes lead into JLA's "The Obsidian Age: The Hunt for Aquaman" storyline solicited this month. Both volumes also feature special "Art of War" sketchbook sections.

This project is supported with house and trade ads.

SUPERMAN: OUR WORLDS AT WAR Volume One and Volume Two are both 264-page trade paperbacks with a cover price of $19.95 U.S. Volume One arrives in comic-book stores August 7. Volume Two arrives in comic-book stores August 21.

"The Hunt for Aquaman" begins!

JLA: "The Obsidian Age"

Following the shocking events of JLA #68 (solicited last month), the JLA has fallen - vanished while searching the ruins of Atlantis for their lost teammate, Aquaman (missing since last year's epic "Our Worlds At War" event). Yet there is no time to mourn the dead - and special provisions crafted by Batman summon a new team of heroes into the ranks of the JLA!

From out of the ashes, an all-new JLA arises to protect the world and save humanity! JLA #69 kicks off the epic "The Obsidian Age: The Hunt for Aquaman" - a 7-part, twice-monthly storyline concluding in the super-sized JLA #75 in November. Written by Joe Kelly, "The Obsidian Age" features alternating chapters illustrated by the art teams of Doug Mahnke & Tom Nguyen and Yvel Guichet & Mark Propst.

It's a brand-new gathering of heroes - with some familiar faces and more than a few surprises! The "Big Seven" may be gone, but that doesn't mean the World's Greatest Super-Heroes won't be around to save the day! Who will they be? You'll have to get JLA #69 to find out!

Just two weeks later in JLA #70, the mystery of the Ancients (who attacked the team in #66-67) is finally revealed! Who are they? And where (and when) do they come from? Manitou Raven and Tezumak - the two warriors who previously assailed the JLA - were almost too powerful to handle. Now meet the rest of their primal, fabled team: the sorceress Gamemnae! The otherworldly Angel! The mighty Sela! The powerful Whaler! And their leader, a young mage named…Rama Khan! Yet not all is peaceful in the mythic realm of Atlantis, for a bizarre group of villains from the far future has come on a mission of vengeance and destruction. If these villains have their way, Atlantis will be destroyed. Who are these villains? They call themselves...the Justice League!

"The Obsidian Age: The Hunt for Aquaman" is sure to be an instant classic, as it will reveal the fate of the King of the Seven Seas.

This storyline is supported with a 4-color poster, house and trade ads, and a minisite at www.dccomics.com.

JLA is an ongoing series edited by Dan Raspler. Issues #69-74 ship twice-monthly in the months of August, September and October. Issues #69 and #70 are both 32-page issues with a cover price of $2.25 U.S., arriving in comic-book stores August 14 and August 28, respectively.

Have you ever had something on the edge of your thoughts but couldn't recall it? That's the problem facing Cole Cash - a.k.a. Grifter of the WildCats. But he's determined to get to the bottom of the mystery in POINT BLANK - a 5-issue mature-readers super-hero noir spectacular from WildStorm's "Eye of the Storm!"

POINT BLANK is by acclaimed writer Ed Brubaker (BATMAN, CATWOMAN) and noted European comics artist Colin Wilson (Lt. Blueberry), and features startling painted covers by Simon Bisley. After being summoned by his old Team 7 associate and legendary I.O. spook John Lynch, Cole is ensnared in a deadly game of cat and mouse. Whom the perpetrators work for and what are their ultimate goals become the least of Grifter's concerns after Lynch falls victim to a vicious attack that leaves him teetering at the abyss of death.

This gripping miniseries leads directly into SLEEPER, the ongoing "Eye of the Storm" series by Brubaker and artist Sean Phillips that debuts this December.

This project is supported with house and trade ads.

POINT BLANK is a 5-issue WildStorm Productions miniseries edited by Scott Dunbier and is suggested for mature readers. The 32-page issue #1 arrives in comic-book stores August 14 with a cover price of $2.95 U.S.

WILDCATS Version 3.0

They were the premier characters of the WildStorm Universe, and a force to be reckoned with. Now, exactly a decade after their first appearance, the newest incarnation of WildStorm's debut super-team returns in the latest ongoing series from the "Eye of the Storm" mature-readers line.

WILDCATS Version 3.0 is brought to you by the team of writer Joe Casey (WILDCATS Volume 2, AUTOMATIC KAFKA, ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN), penciller Dustin Nguyen (THE AUTHORITY, JET) and inker Richard Friend (STEAMPUNK). The WildCats have come a long way from being a Covert Action Team, as WILDCATS Version 3.0 explores the decidedly corporate machinations of Jack Marlowe and the Halo Corporation. Exactly how does a modern multinational conglomerate go about taking over the world? And how do the other members of the WILDCATS cast - Grifter, Wax, C.C. Rendozzo, the mysterious Agent Orange, and several new characters - fit into its plans?

Version 3.0 delves deeper into the lives and the motivations of the characters than ever before with sophisticated relationships and more complex interactions existing alongside the all-out action and intrigue of earlier volumes. You'll never be able to predict the twists and turns.

This project is supported with house and trade ads.

WILDCATS Version 3.0 is an ongoing WildStorm Productions series edited by John Layman. Issue #1 arrives in comic-book stores August 28 with a cover price of $2.95 U.S.

Who's your daddy?

There have been many "heroes" in the wrestling world: overmuscled wannabes claiming to be champions of the oppressed, in reality just play-actors looking for an easy buck. All of them are mere pretenders to the throne...the throne of the one true masked lord of the wrestling ring - the standardbearer of a legacy that goes back untold centuries. Creator Adam Pollina (X-Force, STRAY) brings the story of this master of the wrestling arts to life in a thrilling miniseries, weighing in at nine irrepressibly funny issues.

Preeeeeeezenting the one, the only...BIG DADDY DANGER!!!

More than just a man (though he is all man), more than just a father (though his devotion to his son is only surpassed by his devotion to his mission), Big Daddy Danger is America's greatest weapon in the fight for freedom. And more than just a miniseries, BIG DADDY DANGER is a bonanza in the making, with Walt Disney Pictures already developing a movie devoted to Daddy's exploits. Inked by Tyson McAdoo (GEN-ACTIVE), BIG DADDY DANGER (which takes place in its own continuity and not within the DC Universe) is the first exposure fans will have to the people's greatest champion: the impossibly strong, supremely confident, always-masked Big Daddy Danger.

The latest member of the Danger family to take the mantle of a national secret weapon (dating back at least as far as the American Revolution), Big Daddy Danger faces astonishing challenges - from the lady wrestlers known as the "Ma'amazons" to a race of alien warriors looking for new worlds to conquer! The responsibilities are taking their toll on Daddy's relationship with his family - aggravated, estranged wife Dana Danger and their son, the worshipful, frequently-disappointed-in-his-father Young Danny Danger. Behind the scenes, the architect of Daddy's troubles is the one contender B.D. may never be able to defeat: his own brother, who will stop at nothing to vanquish his sibling and finally inherit the family legacy as Big Diablo Danger, the biggest heel of them all!

Will Big Daddy be able to lay the smackdown on superstar wrestlers, aliens, the forces of Hell, and family turmoil the likes of which we mortals have never experienced? We're not saying the fix is in, but the only safe bet is on BIG DADDY DANGER!

This project is supported with a 4-color poster, house and trade ads, and a minisite at www.dccomics.com.

BIG DADDY DANGER is a 9-issue miniseries edited by Mike Carlin. Issue #1 arrives in comic-book stores August 7 with a cover price of $2.95 U.S.

A New Writer Takes Aim!

Popular writer Kevin Smith may have bid farewell to writing the adventures of Green Arrow for now, but Emerald Archer Oliver Queen is left in very talented hands. With GREEN ARROW #16, four-time New York Times best-selling author Brad Meltzer (The Millionaires, The Tenth Justice) starts his run on DC's best-selling title, with continuing art by the fan-favorite team of Phil Hester & Ande Parks, and painted covers by Matt Wagner.

In his first story arc, Meltzer examines the plans that Ollie made long ago in the event of his death. Since Ollie has died and returned to life, the archer is checking to see if his instructions were carried out properly. And who better to leave these instructions with than a super friend guaranteed to be around to follow through on them? Continuing the twists, turns and surprises that Kevin Smith used to great success in the first fifteen issues of GREEN ARROW, Meltzer forges a new path for comicdom's most favorite archer - while putting his own stamp on the hot-headed hero.

If you thought GREEN ARROW was good up until now, wait until you see what Meltzer - a serious comics fan - has in store for Ollie's future!

This issue is supported with house and trade ads and a minisite at www.dccomics.com.

GREEN ARROW is an ongoing series edited by Bob Schreck. Issue #16 is a 32-page issue arriving in comic-book stores August 28 with a cover price of $2.50 U.S.

The third trade paperback collecting the acclaimed VERTIGO series, LUCIFER: A DALLIANCE WITH THE DAMNED finds the Lightbringer hard at work on a New Creation - beyond the bounds of any authority but his own, complete with a new pair of inhabitants for a new Garden of Eden.

Written by Mike Carey (HELLBLAZER), with art by Peter Gross (THE BOOKS OF MAGIC), Dean Ormston (HOUSE OF SECRETS) & Ryan Kelly, and a painted cover by Christopher Moeller, A DALLIANCE WITH THE DAMNED collects LUCIFER #14-20. This volume includes the three free-standing stories from "Triptych" - "The Seeds of Time," "The Two-Edged Sword" and "The Ancestral Deed" - as well as the 3-part storyline "A Dalliance With the Damned" and its coda, "The Thunder Sermon."

Lucifer is in the God business now, holding the fate of a new cosmos in his hands. But back on Earth (and in Hell) schemes and betrayals continue to grow. And while his faithful attendant Mazikeen of the Lilim and half-angel Elaine Belloc both embark on very personal quests, the lords of Hell play at a human masquerade, drawing the Morningstar against his will into their potentially lethal intrigues.

New readers who get hooked on LUCIFER with A DALLIANCE WITH THE DAMNED or LUCIFER: NIRVANA can jump onto the regular series later this month with LUCIFER #29 - beginning the 4-part "Inferno" storyline. Lucifer is back in Hell preparing to fight a duel against his most uncompromising foe, Amenadiel of the Thrones, and the seeds that were sown in the "Dalliance" story arc are coming to a terrible fruition.

This project is supported with house ads.

A beautiful angel with an ancient score to settle puts out a contract on Lucifer Morningstar. But can the devil really die? The answer to that is found in LUCIFER: NIRVANA - a 48-page Prestige Format VERTIGO one-shot by Eisner Award-nominated writer Mike Carey (LUCIFER, HELLBLAZER), painted by Jon J Muth (MOONSHADOW, THE MYSTERY PLAY).

To kill Lucifer, Perdissa hires a notorious being from an earlier Creation known as the Silk Man - a monstrous hit man with a terrifying track record. But in order for the devil to get his due, Perdissa has to put a lot more than her life on the line, and the Silk Man must find exactly the right tools: a magical aid to meditation; a tiny ghost in a bamboo cage; and a young Chinese widow whose longing for peace makes her the perfect bait.

Alerted by an attack on Lux, his L.A. piano bar, Lucifer follows a trail that leads him from the mercurial realm of the Dreaming to the luminous streets of Beijing. And it's here that the Morningstar is forced to fight his most difficult battle - of body and spirit - as he falls into the jaws of a trap that doesn't even exist until it's sprung.

Set against the rich tapestry of contemporary China, this compelling story of an angel's quest for revenge and a young woman's search for solace features guest-appearances by Daniel, the new Sandman, as well as Lucifer's masked accomplice Mazikeen. Readers of LUCIFER do not want to miss this important tale, though new readers will enjoy NIRVANA as a separate, self-contained story.

The U.S. government is fed up with the Authority's meddling in world affairs. So they bring on a killer-for-hire to fix the problem. But the Authority is the WildStorm Universe's most powerful super-team, right? So what could only one man do? How about dismantling the team with ridiculous ease?

In his first work for WildStorm, master of mature-readers mayhem Garth Ennis (PREACHER, HELLBLAZER) teams up with noted cover artist and longtime collaborator Glenn Fabry (PREACHER). Together, they bring WildStorm's most popular team into the "Eye of the Storm" with THE AUTHORITY: KEV - an outrageous, hysterical tale about a man called, well…Kev.

That's short for Kevin Hawkins - a screw-up government agent who has the best luck in the world…and the worst. Case in point: He's the guy given the assignment, and the means, to kill the Authority. What's more, Kev just might have enough dumb luck to get the job done. But, believe it or not, Kev may have even bigger problems than the Authority. In fact, the entire world has a big problem. In what world are the lives of Kyle Rayner, Hal Jordan and Alan Scott destined to collide in the most unexpected way? In an Elseworld - where New York City at the turn of the 19th century is the setting for the 3-issue Prestige Format tale of GREEN LANTERN: EVIL'S MIGHT.

Written by Howard Chaykin & David Tischman (AMERICAN CENTURY, SON OF SUPERMAN) and illustrated by Marshall Rogers & John Cebollero (BATMAN: LEGENDS OF THE DARK KNIGHT), EVIL'S MIGHT shows a city filled with poverty, corruption and violence. From his offices around the corner from City Hall, "Boss" Tweed oversees the graft and extortion that make the city run. From his tenement flat in the Lower East Side just blocks away, Kyle Rayner pens the political cartoons that mock a government that cares little (if at all) for its poorest and neediest citizens. Uptown, police officer Hal Jordan courts Carol Ferris, the daughter of one of Tweed's top political cronies. And on the West Side, gang leader Alan Scott begins building his own corrupt dynasty - one based on the rule of the fist, club and eventually, gun.

Irish-born immigrants all, the lives of these men were destined to cross from the start. But something happens to make the collision even more explosive. That something is a gift - a gift of a lantern, given to Kyle in gratitude for saving a shopkeeper from Alan Scott's extortionist thugs. And when Kyle gets home, he discovers something else: a ring, secreted inside the lantern, which seems to come to life when Kyle places it on his finger, giving him undreamed-of powers! Crafted by the King of the Leprechauns a millennium ago and powered by a piece of the Blarney Stone, the ring gives Kyle the power to change the lives of New York's poorest…and to bring down the corrupt political regime he could until now only mock in the pages of the daily paper.

This project is supported with house and trade ads.

GREEN LANTERN: EVIL'S MIGHT is a 3-issue Prestige Format Elseworlds miniseries edited by Andrew Helfer. The 48-page issue #1 arrives in comic-book stores August 28 with a cover price of $5.95 U.S.

Do the homeless have guardian angels, and if they do, why aren't those angels doing a better job? Why do space aliens "probe" us in certain unmentionable places? Are certain movie stars licensed to kill? Does the Almighty ignore our prayers?

If you've found yourself pondering these questions, you're in luck. The answers to these and many other burning philosophical quandaries can be found in the new VERTIGO graphic novel BIGG TIME. It's 128 black-and-white pages of satire, from the outrageous mind of writer/artist Ty Templeton (Stig's Inferno, PLASTIC MAN SPECIAL).

BIGG TIME is the story of Lester Bigg, a penniless aspiring actor now living homeless on the street. After a freak accident involving Lester's lack of access to a toilet and a conveniently located third rail (don't ask), Lester is able to see his guardian angel, Stavros. The problem is, Stavros has been doing the guardian angel thing for so long that he's become bored and has intentionally sabotaged Lester's life for his own amusement. Now, Stavros must make amends for his misdeeds and help grant Lester's wish for fame, fortune and the American dream within one month or face the terrible consequences…

Attempting to penetrate the dark heart of the entertainment business, Lester and Stavros face the seedy underbelly of America's celebrity culture, complete with showbiz superficiality, brainless music industry trends, deadly game shows, powerful Hollywood agents, gorgeous groupies, a pit full of snakes and monkeys, and the madness of the star-making system.

Catwoman. Poison Ivy. Harley Quinn. Detective Renée Montoya. Batgirl. They are the women of the popular WB Online webtoon, and now they're bursting into the animated DC Universe in an action-packed 5-issue miniseries: GOTHAM GIRLS!

Written by Paul Storrie (JUSTICE LEAGUE ADVENTURES, Mutant X: Dangerous Discoveries), with art by Jennifer Graves (SUPERGIRL) & J. Bone (Spider-Man's Tangled Web) and hot covers by Shane Glines, each issue gives a different Gotham Girl a turn at playing narrator.

Unable to resist a golden opportunity to fund her beloved lion preserve, Catwoman heists a vial of a mysterious formula for a shady company - only to discover she's actually working for Poison Ivy and the mallet-wielding Harley Quinn. That event sets off an every-villain-for-herself chase across Gotham's rooftops, attracting the attention of both Batgirl and Montoya who reluctantly team up to join the fray. Who will get the vial? What's really in it? Will Catwoman ever get paid? Is Ivy out to double-cross everybody, even her old pal Harley? And how do you give a hero the slip when you're both atop a speeding truck?

These answers and more are found in this fast-paced caper, featuring crackling art, fun-filled action and everybody's favorite…Gotham Girls! Be sure to visit the girls at www.gothamgirls.com, and also look for the GOTHAM GIRLS posters coming from DC Direct!

Volume Two

After the success of the first BATMAN: BLACK AND WHITE anthology series (and subsequent collection), the noir-flavored short stories featuring the Dark Knight - written and drawn by a stellar lineup - have continued as a popular backup feature in the monthly BATMAN: GOTHAM KNIGHTS.

Now the first sixteen of those tales are reprinted in BATMAN: BLACK AND WHITE Volume 2 - a 176-page oversized (7 1/2" x 11 5/8") hardcover that also includes five new, never-before-published 8-page stories created just for this volume! (Note: these new tales will eventually be seen as backups in BATMAN: GOTHAM KNIGHTS). Printed on high-quality paper and topped with a stunning cover by Mike Mignola (Hellboy), this handsome book is a must-have for the collections of every Batman fan and aficionado of comics fine art!

And wait until you hear who's supplying the new stories! First up, multiple award-winning creators Paul Dini and Alex Ross - who have collaborated on such highly successful Specials as SUPERMAN: PEACE ON EARTH and BATMAN: WAR ON CRIME - reunite on "Case Study," a story that features Ross's rare black-and-white painted work. Then, popular writer Chris Claremont (Extreme X-Men, GEN13) teams with Steve Rude (Nexus, X-Men: Children of the Atom) & Mark Buckingham (Peter Parker: Spider-Man, FABLES) for "A Matter of Trust." Writer Steven T. Seagle (THE CRUSADES) supplies the story of "Fortunes," featuring art by internationally acclaimed illustrator Daniel Torres (Heavy Metal). BATGIRL's Kelley Puckett writes "Night After Night" for Eisner Award-winning artist Tim Sale (BATMAN: DARK VICTORY, Spider-Man: Blue). And the irrepressible Ty Templeton (BIGG TIME) teams up with the legendary Marie Severin for "Bats, Man!"

But that's not all! The talented roster behind the reprinted tales from BATMAN: GOTHAM KNIGHTS #1-16 must be seen to be believed: Warren Ellis & Jim Lee, John Byrne, Paul Pope, John Arcudi & Tony Salmons, Paul Levitz & Paul Rivoche, Walter Simonson & John Paul Leon, Arcudi & John Buscema, Brian Azzarello & Eduardo Risso, Howard Chaykin & Jordi Bernet, Alan Brennert & José Luis García-López, Robert Kanigher & Kyle Baker, Dave Gibbons, Harlan Ellison & Gene Ha, Dini & Ronnie Del Carmen, Tom Peyer & Gene Colan & Tom Palmer, and Alan Grant & Enrique Breccia!

Volume Eight

The comprehensive, award-winning collection of Will Eisner's indelible creation, The Spirit, continues with THE SPIRIT ARCHIVES Volume Eight - a 224-page hardcover reprinting the newspaper Spirit sections from January to July, 1944.

This volume of THE SPIRIT ARCHIVES finds strips executed by the more-than-capable members of Eisner's staff - during the period when Eisner was spirited away by the United States Army for the duration of World War II. But with writers Manly Wade Wellman and William Woolfolk, and legendary artists Lou Fine and Jack Cole at work, the quality of the weekly Spirit certainly did not falter.

But don't take our word for it; see for yourself in this meticulously reconstructed, gorgeously presented hardcover that also features a 4-page portfolio of Eisner's work done for the U.S. Army! Thrill to the adventures of the Spirit as he fights the likes Killer Ketch, Dr. Peroo, and the deadly Black Marx!

THE SPIRIT ARCHIVES Volume Eight is a 224-page hardcover arriving in comic-book stores August 14 with a cover price of $49.95 U.S.
