Scripted audio dramas based on Wonder Woman and Joker are among the new slate of DC-themed podcasts coming to Spotify.

The new superhero podcasts join Batman Unburied, which will be the first DC podcast executive produced by The Dark Knight Rises's David S. Goyer. DC and Spotify reached a multi-year agreement in 2020 to produce narrative-scripted podcasts featuring DC superheroes and supervillains.

Goyer joined DC Chief Creative Officer Jim Lee at Spotify's Stream On event to discuss how podcasts like Batman Unburied will bring a new dimension to these classic characters and the DC Universe. Some of the characters to be featured in future Spotify podcasts include Superman, Lois Lane, Wonder Woman, Joker, Catwoman, Katana, The Riddler, Batgirl and Harley Quinn.

"I've been fortunate to have had a hand in shaping how audiences see Batman, and now it's really fun to have a hand in shaping how audiences hear Batman," Goyer said. "With Batman Unburied, we're going to be doing a deep dive into Batman's unconscious mind and into his dream state, really leaning into the idea of playing around with the idea of surround sound." He then teased the idea of Joker whispering things into the listener's ear, which he described as "nightmarish."

"We have a ton of other amazing characters," Lee added. "We are planning on doing a Catwoman/Katana podcast, Superman and Lois Lane, Wonder Woman, Batgirl, Riddler... there are so many amazing characters that we can explore. This is a long-term partnership between Warner Bros, DC and Spotify, and I think the fanbase is just going to respond to this in an exciting way and embrace it as something new and novel, and supplements all the other ways they take in the DC Universe."

Batman Unburied will be released later this year on Spotify.
