The respective finales of DC Comics' Rooster Teeth-based digital-first titles RWBY and gen:LOCK will not be arriving in print.

Per Newsarama, DC Comics has canceled the print releases of RWBY #7 and gen:LOCK #7, which had previously been delayed indefinitely as a result of the ongoing global health crisis. Originally, DC would publish digital chapters of both titles on a bi-weekly basis, with each two chapters then being collected into monthly print issues (i.e. 14 total chapters across seven issues for both books). So, while the contents of RWBY #7 and gen:LOCK #7 are already available for purchase digitally -- and have been for some time -- physical editions of these issues will not be available in comic shops.

That being said, much like the current situation with DC's Supergirl and The Terrifics, the publisher does still have plans for the final chapters of both RWBY and gen:LOCK to see publication in print when the respective full-series collected editions are eventually released. The decision to nix issue #7 of both titles seems to be the latest development after DC's distribution model was thrown off as a result of the COVID-19 situation.

Created by Monty Oum, Rooster Teeth Animation's RWBY premiered its first volume back in 2013, with the seventh and most recent volume beginning in late 2019 and concluding earlier this year. RWBY Volume 8 is currently in development. Written by Marguerite Bennett and illustrated by Mirka Andolfo, the DC Comics adaptation premiered digitally back in August and takes place between the events of Volume 3 and Volume 4.

Meanwhile, gen:LOCK premiered as a Rooster Teeth First exclusive in early 2019, before later joining Cartoon Network/Adult Swim's Toonami block. The comic book adaptation -- set after the events of Season 1 -- comes from the creative team of writers Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzig and artist Carlo Barberi. Some time after DC's adaptation launched, it was announced that the original gen:LOCK animated series had been renewed for a second season and would be moving to HBO Max.
